It is time to change the name of the capitol. Obamagrad would be appropriate. Just like in honor of the great men before him - Leningrad, Stalingrad...

Rename Washington, DC? May I suggest calling it Mordor or Z'ha'dum?

I have to agree, jlc. In '1984', the main character's whole career was based on changing the past, editing news articles to cover for governmental mistakes and miscalculations. So, whitewashing our past runs the risk of creating more sheep to fall in line with whomever is in charge.

+1 jimslag! I agree 100%. The only way to fully appreciate what the Founders of the US truly accomplished, one has to get into the mindset of the times and discover who they really were. If the PC crowd has their way all that history will be disintegrated in Orwell's memory hole and then they will tell us what to believe, rather than what actually was.

It is official, nothing is about race, it is about ignorance. The populace has watched too much TV drivel and have become incapable of reasoned thought. Galt help us all.

At first T thought this was joke, but sure enough the communists are serious. These idiots should be on their knees thanking him for his work. As far as moving his memorial, my back 40 is available. I'll give it to the cause.

Rename Washington DC, I think old George would be glad his name is taken off of it. Rename it Hell

The Fascist Liberals are hard at work to gut our nation. They want to rewrite history, eliminate the Founding Fathers and our Constitution. For decades we have allowed our nation school system to indoctrinate our children into socialist anarchy. We are paying the price! Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old they will not depart from. It seam that at least half of our children have been sent in the wrong direction.
We should leave the Jefferson Memorial right where it is, and deport all of Fascist Liberal that are ruining our nation.

"...the Orwelllian twists on American principles have my head spinning."

It is as if I am reading a new version of the book 1984. Don't they see this?

Interesting Mike Marotta. I recall that it was said of Julius Caesar that he was, "Every woman's husband; every man's wife."

    A real "pater patriae", eh?

Old Dino has an idea. Move all things of (especially historic) value from DC to the Gulch where it can be rationally appreciated. .
Let the politicians and libtard revisionist citizens left behind stand naked in grass hopefully infested by chiggers.

Everything we're experiencing lately is due to the change from teaching American history to Social Studies and its demon offspring, "social justice".

This is why people are so ignorant of our past and the great men who built this country.

All of these distractionary tactics by the left are to keep us in reactionary mode and on our heels.

The truly sad part of all this is the constant caving in to these societal numbskulls by the politicians who are only interested in their political careers and NOT what's right.

there is no longer any tradition associated with the nation that has been referred too as the united states of america, so lets change the names of everything until a new democratic crowd decides that things should be changed to something else. this country is determined to destroy itself from within, we need no outside enemies.

I am sorry but I am actually a fan of President Jefferson. Yes, he was a slaveholder but he was a renaissance man and the embodiment of the enlightenment. He was an Ambassador to England and France, he was Secretary of State under President Washington, he was Governor of Virginia. He established the University of Virginia. He designed the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond. Along with all of his inventions and machinations, he was truly a remarkable man. For being a slave holder though, you cannot look in the present tense, you have to look at the time frame in which he lived and the current political context does not look at that. They are putting everything into the modern context and do not understand history or what these people, like Washington and Jefferson and Adams and Hancock and others accomplished. This country would not exist in it's current state (as bad as it currently is) without the sacrifice that those individuals put forth.

This isn't a joke, is it? It sounds like some trick Jesse Watters would pull: ask people whether they would support something outrageous and actually find takers. Jesse Watters tells us just how fouled up government education really is.

Of course, here's another I Could Say That But I Won't moment. In this case: I could say public education delivers horrible results. But I won't say it, because I do not argue from possibly bad results but from a basic premise that the government has no business meddling in education, aside from training military or police officers.

I'll vote for "Maggot Hole, DC (District of Corruption). There are a few dozen more likely, descriptive and totally unbiased candidates I can think of as well. I thought Shrug had found some humorous satire, but these idiots mean it.....The End Is Near...

I'm afraid I agree, there seems to be concerted effort to stir up group think warfare, whether it's race, class, law enforcement, military vs civilian, etc. And the Orwelllian twists on American principles have my head spinning. I would love an Objectivist translation service for government and MSM corrupted language!

There is so much irrationality and delusion going on with this mass hysteria--what is this logical train of thought and analysis you would try to impose on these people?! Cause and effect? Wha...?? Sorry, I'm on your side but I don't see logic and reason working so abruptly on most of these people. There needs to be a more intuitive approach and argument although I don't have a good one yet.

Originally, it was called Federal City. Then, the Federalists renamed it "Washington" in honor of the man whom they called "the father of his country." Ignorant of Latin texts such as Suetonius, no one knows that "pater patriae" was a title granted to Roman emperors (first citizens: princeps), by the Senate, as if he were the pater familias of all Rome. Renaming Washington DC to Federal City DC would be the republican thing to do.

As for the complex and multifaceted Mr. Jefferson, as much as we must admire his rhetoric on behalf of the rights of man, the rights of Sally Hemings were somewhat less important to him. It is not just that he owned slaves, slavery being simply a legal status, but that he banged the daylights out of a minor girl whom he owned as property. It was completely, totally, and irrevocably an unequal relationship. "The whole commerce between master and slave is a perpetual exercise of the most boisterous passions, the most unremitting despotism on the one part, and degrading submissions on the other." [Query XVIII, “Manners” -- here: http://tjrs.monticello.org/archive/se...]

So, I would keep the Jefferson Memorial as a reminder of how internally conflicted America is. You gotta take the bad with the good. But Washington? In the libertarian science fiction series of the Probability Broach by L. Neil Smith, Washington was hanged as a traitor to the Republic, and Hamilton was exiled to Prussia.

SCBs!! What the hell won't these idiots suggest?

And who the hell told them their opinions and ideas weren't perfect demonstrations of the old adage:

'It's often better to be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
