Government Reeducation?

I am not trying to reignite the debate on the virtues of personal liberty vs government coercion, the biggest thing I was focused on in this article are these two paragraphs. Read them aloud.

<quote>Last August, Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian told The Oregonian, their desire is to rehabilitate businesses like the one owned by the Christian couple.

“Everybody is entitled to their own beliefs, but that doesn’t mean that folks have the right to discriminate,” he told the newspaper. “The goal is never to shut down a business. The goal is to rehabilitate.” </quote>

Now, say that again using the word reeducate. No difference. I think he said a little more than he wanted to, let a little more slip than he was supposed to. I wonder what lengths he and those like him will go to in order to reeducate people. Perhaps a central reeducation facility would help them out.

My favorite part of the article is where it says (may be slightly paraphrased) "everyone has entitlement to their own beliefs, but that doesn't entitle them the right to discriminate."

In other words, believe what you want as long as you do what we say. Classic...just classic communism. I think Ayn Rand would agree with this conclusion.

All those officials criticizing them should put their efforts to getting on the boards of other businesses and implementing gay friendly policies. It would be nice if they were friendly toward polyamory. I don't understand polyamory, and I'm pretty sure my wife and I will embarrass our kids when we say things like that.

We could do more by going out in the marketplace and doing things well than trying to re-educate these Christians. Even if we can't, it's a free country. We can hold signs in front of their store. They can keep selling cakes only to heterosexuals. It doesn't hurt me a bit. They're not actually doing anything to gays. They're just making asses of themselves. The spirit of US Constitution protects their right to make asses of themselves.

Tyranny or dictatorship, but not communism. You are confusing the fact that all communist leaders were also dictators (or tyrants, if you prefer that word).

This is what happens when life-styles are given protected class status.
