as I sat at my bench today, saddenedby "current events" on what should be my happiest holiday, I thought

Even with our fears, worries, frustration and fear about the now, we know that there was, for one brief shining moment, that which we still see as truth, justice.....and the American Way. and we will NOT -- through our own cares, our fatigue and pain, our worries about what will happen to the ones we love, the ones we respect, the ones we are bound by honor to care for --we will not let that moment be overrun for all time by the forces of evil which we know wish fervently to do exactly that. They will not win until the last one of us is dead, and maybe not even then.

THEY swore their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to this cause we hold dear with them, across time - I can do no less. I will keep the flame of liberty fed in every heart I can, and I will water the tree of liberty any way I must.

I so swear by my life, and my love of it.

    I was heartened that as the fireworks started, a friend who is not generally into govt policy said he's concerned about liberty. Someone else said if we lose our republic, future historians will seize upon one event, maybe something yet to happen, as the crossing-the-Rubicon moment. It will be a long process represented by some token event. Three people other than me made similar comments before we turned to less philosophical matters.

    I came away happy that these concerns are on people's minds.

    Is life so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.
