I'm probably going get blown up for this, but while I don't agree with much of anything he says or believes in, I respect him.

From what I've seen, he is what he says he is. He doesn't pander and suck up to everyone trying to scrounge up votes; he says "Here's what I am. Vote for me."

His politics and beliefs are pretty abhorrent to me, but in the world of politics, his honesty is refreshing.

There is no legitimate grounds to respect someone who bases everything they say on very evil premises. I don't see how an honest vile creature is any less vile much less deserving of your respect.

        Sure,

Wouldn't it be great if a person in power stood up and said. "Hay world I plan on killing a few million of you in the next few years, but those who follow me will gain more wealth and power from it, so do you want to be a target or get rich?"

We would know who that mass murder was, and could keep an eye on him or her. Wont happen because evil tends to like to stay hidden until it cannot be stopped, at least in the eyes of the person performing the evil act.

I would still have to have a certain level of respect for the mass murder that talked the same game he wanted to play.

Whether or not some is deserving of my respect requires an accounting (or at least as complete as it can be with less than total knowledge) of his virtues and vices. There is an entire menu of both to be weighed in on. Yes, he may be "honest." But that is only one of many attributes. After adding up what all I can know about Sanders, the net result is not respect.

      Rainman,

      I agree with you.

I can respect any man or woman who says what they believe and acts accordingly. He does seem to do that.

I do not care for the guy, but you know what you are getting with him. Would it not have been nice if Obama had been so forthright up front.

How can that be? They just elected the most recent socialist twice...although he claimed different plumage.

I agree. The culture of self-sacrifice in America often denies that socialism is in essence altruism made into a political system. In an odd sense, Sanders wants to be explicit about socialism, that is, explicit about economic rights - while ignoring political rights (specifically, property rights) as the root of economic power.

there is the other form that says if I don't go heavily into debt to make sure some store has record sales which they won't have unless Christmas sales are at record highs I''m a a Scrooge. So. for all you stores and politicians that rely on me to survive the rest of the year Bah Humbug! Property rights includes my own money and altruism comes on Boxing Day and doesn't take six months of campaigning for votes or for sales. Christmas as a commerecial holiday should be restricted to after Thanksgiving and politics to one month before elections. I would re entitle the post as Bernie Sanders and the nation get Good News! An Boxing day present no doubt.

PS any business and JoAnns comes to mind that can't survive without Christmas Sales doesn't deserve to survive. for politicians make that two weeks before elections.

He sticks to a consistent position. But I have never heard him defend it so that anyone other than a client of government would sympathize.

For me, the $64k follow-up question is, how to we get the public to notice that people like Obama, Pelosi, Hillary, and DiFi are also socialists?

I can't believe that the 47% would...but then again, equally bewildering is that 60% would vote muslim; and the really really sad thing is they already have voted for a marxist, socialistic muslim. Only 50% of the population is somewhat awake! Add in a few illegal dead people to the voting booths and one can see how the 47% wins..[sic/sad and embarrassing]

That a 47% say that they would not be put off by a presidential candidate who is an avowed socialist is not exactly what I would call a victory. It is rather frightening.

Trump is no joke compared to Bernie Sanders. But, he's such a nice guy, and over the years he has put his beliefs in order, set them up, polished them, so that he sounds quite reasonable until you actually think about what he is saying. Because he has his ducks in a row, he's not afraid to enter any forum and debate or be questioned. Any true outspoken Objectivist could demolish his arguments. Even me. No one in the media wants to look as if they're bullying this likeable old guy so he usually gets away with his pronouncements. Looks like socialism is still a bad word to most Americans. That's a good thing.

Are people so dumb or naïve to believe that Obama isn't worse than a Socialist?! Some Rep. candidate has a real opportunity there to educate the populace.
