Town asks for tax hike to pay for police beating

A friend sent this to me. Amazing a cop beats someone up unlawfully and the residents are asked to pay for the settlement That's what I call cruel and unusual punishment.

    I wonder if the citizens could be made more aware of what it's costing them in settlements, court costs, and insurance payments, what the impact might be? It's millions of dollars. Some small towns have had to eliminate police forces because of increases to the insurance or inability to even continue insurance.

      "Half don't care they don't pay anything. The other half don't care unless they get slapped in the face with a tax hike. Most will then put in for a government grant. Some will move or take their business elsewhere.

      Within five years he whole thing will be forgotten. Less if they get the grant.

      The ability to disregard reality is truly amazing.

    The solution is simple and obvious...since the insurance threshold is $2 million, and the victim was awarded only $1.4 million, they should send the cops out to beat up someone else. (Possibly a lawyer so the could be sure that they'd be sued!) I'm sure that a suitable candidate (or three) could be found in the environs of Detroit.
