From the Movies or from the book-stump us, or tweak our newbies by asking a question we have to answer-Oh, I want easter eggs from the movies! but also from Atlas Shrugged, the book. Let's compile a bunch of questions to tempt gulchers to delve-either re-watch Parts I-III or crack the spine of that beloved piece of life-changing novel. no rules-have fun. You don't have to answer any of the questions-just give points for the ones you think are good-later I will post again and ask for answers. Ready, set, Go!

    "Miracles". :)

I was going to say "God" as well. In general, the concept of "God" or of the primacy of consciousness is of course in conflict with identity and causality.

She does say (in "Causality vs. Duty" (PWNI)) that "The notion of “duty” is intrinsically anti-causal. In its origin, a “duty” defies the principle of efficient causation—since it is causeless (or supernatural); in its effects, it defies the principle of final causation—since it must be performed regardless of consequences."

I can't imagine her ever having said that anything actually "defeats" causality / identity.

I am sorry, K. The depth of your sorrow is a measure of your love for her. She must have been special for you to miss her so much.
You and I both got to be mothers to lovely young women, too.

The regular school is over now. I do have one small class in the summer, but I am planning on publishing 10 papers this summer so that I can get promoted. I have procrastinated too long by having too much fun doing this.

It is a fitting tribute to AR that there is so much trivia that so many of us know. Thanks for the post, Khalling. I needed something more positive.

Cleveland, Ohio is where the Patrick Henry University was located, but I have no idea why AR chose that location. Does anyone know why she picked Cleveland, OH? I debated asking where the Patrick Henry University was located myself. Could the location of the Patrick Henry University have anything to do with John Rockefeller's Standard Oil?

When Dagny goes to visit Francisco at the Wayne-Falkland Hotel to ask him about the "farce" he came to see, she finds him sitting on the floor playing with marbles. This seems like a strange pastime for a person as intense as Francisco. Why was he playing with marbles? This also seems like one that gets answered later in the book, but I couldn't find it.

Hi Oho: This, too, is the explanation that seems most likely to me. There are 2 other possible explanations, but seem less likely. 1) Hank was somehow aware that James was going to con her into that radio broadcast and he was trying to keep her out of it. This seems unlikely as there is no hint that he knew of it in advance. 2) He wanted to meet secretly with Eddie to offer a moratorium on payments owed Rearden Steel by TT. This too seems unlikely as this scene occurs much later (P 226) and there is no good way to tell what the elapsed time was between the meeting in CO and the one with Eddie.
