NASA replies to my daughter

This is a wonderful idea for people with kids. My 6 year old recently mailed a letter to NASA with ideas for new exploration and general questions. Today she received a package in the mail from them. It is a thrill for a young child to get a package from NASA. We are spending the evening watching the "When We Left Earth" series.

I LOVE this! Thank you for sharing this with us...THIS is something I can use in the near future with my grandson. Our house also has huge LEGO enthusiasts in it. :) Congratulations to your daughter and family for participating in this fun learning experience. Great memories being made.

God bless your daughter and her sense of wonder about the universe. I hope sometime in her life she witnesses the wonder of man returning to the exploration of space. Perhaps she will be one of those astronauts. I was 13 when we landed on the moon and my sense of wonder has continued to this day (I have a room full of books and models to prove it!) Thanks for reminding me of the first package I received from NASA. Tell your daughter to never lose her sense of wonder!

They were pics of what she would call advanced Mars rover designs. We would call them little Lego rovers. We had been talking about the Pathfinder mission, and she figured she could design a line of rovers for them using her Legos. The whole thing was totally cute.

My kids took part in a contest for a Mars over design. We got to go test it out in Baltimore. Gosh I wish they were little like that again.

I also did this when I was young and NASA sent me a package that was truly impressive. It made my older sister jealous causing her to write a letter too. Only she must not have wrote the right words or something because her return wasn't anything near what mine had been with full-colour photos and more. Neither of us grew up to be astronauts but I did join the Air Force. I wish I knew what happened to my letter. It's nice to see NASA still inspiring our youth.

I am all for exploring the universe, but not on my dime.

There are MANY other things we could be doing with our money - lower taxes for one - more research to get cheaper energy, not that windmill crap, but things like Fusion - also more research is needed to develop faster spacecraft, not that "Solar sail" idea either - how do you get back, tack into the Solar wind like a sailboat? - Going to other planets and moons is a waste of time and money. Until we can get there faster, why bother?
