Lesson learned: Do not live in the Peoples Republic of New York. Also, go find one or 2 car wash places in the boundaries of this town, and sue them for discrimination, civil rights violation and 1st amendment issues (washing a car could easily be interpreted as free speech?). What a load of crap... and his neighbor is a dork too.

    Despicable thuggery. Excuse me officer do you have a warrant? No... Then you are trespassing... please remove yourself from my property... I bet that would have gone over really well... not. Just one more reason I will never live in the city.

        Greetings Timelord,
        No doubt. I live in a rural area and our local township board has come up with some questionable regulations, but thankfully nothing close to this extreme. The cities nearby have far more restrictions on private property use than I can stomach. It seems like the closer your proximity and the more neighbors you have the greater the odds you might offend and then find others demanding more regulation...

            Ah... yes. Quite right. One of my nephews was driving out here "in the sticks" last year, was pulled over and hassled for having one of his two license plate lights out! Really! I haven't researched it but I think that sounds fishy. The plate was still lit! I think the cop was just looking for someone to hassle and hoping he would find more wrong...

    chilling on sooo many levels. 1. the neighbor calling. 2. the policeman threatening the ticket because he is asked a question. 3. the second policeman approaching! 4. the policeman with a smile on his face threatening additional force if the homeowner does not cooperate.
    5. who the hell can't wash their car in their own driveway?! does private property have ANY meaning left in NY (I thought they said Conn)

      I thought it was NY, but I could have been wrong. But you are right on all counts, I thought this adds a whole new level to "Police State". Also, it seems this violates a whole lot of constitutional areas, it's just so damn expensive for lawsuits.. I know, been suing the idiot next door for $1 million for having 250 alpacas on 2.5 acres, and NEVER has picked up any poop. Been shedding ecoli off the scale for 3 years now, and the smell...ooohh the smell...

        In Oz, in the state next door, a little old man has been served with a fine and prohibition order from city local government for keeping livestock in a suburban area - more exactly, one sheep who he has had in his backyard for years without any complaint. The city employee found out, needed to clock up a point, had the power, and hence the charge. The owner says he will sell his house to pay the fine.

        Good grief!! That is not a situation that sounds at all acceptable. And this hasn't been fixed, because...? Regarding washing one's own car in one's own driveway the things people find to complain about really shows how small minded most are. There is nothing better that cop could be doing? Sheesh!

    The ordinance should not be open to interpretation. A driveway on private property is not public. Washing the car at the curb would be a whole different matter. They should have fought the ticket in court. And what was that intimidation regarding the licensing of the car!

    The cop had no right to come on their property since there was no evidence of a crime being committed at the time. If I were the homeowner I would have asked the cop to leave my driveway. He can advise me of the law from there.

    I was once told I could not polish my car in Columbus, Ohio park area. That was okay. However, when You are in your own driveway! This says t hat you cannot only not say anything that offends someone, you cannot do anything on your private property that might offend someone - Scarey.The key here was the cop's use of the "in view of someone" off your property! That is really diabolical! That is pure communism and is infiltrating our law enforcement. Left unchecked, we will not be able to say, do, and even think anything which the government does not approve. Check out Common Core, and how they they test kids attitudes to make sure they are proper thinking.
    Private property itself is in danger of being taken away via UN Agenda 21, which Obama has said he will support. When will people wake up. They came for the car washers today, tomorrow they may come for the rats who called the cops.

      You know, maybe they ought to go to Harbor Frieght, they have a tent thingy that will fit a car, and then not be in public view. But really, doesn't this just sound so Hugo Chavish? Whats next, no toilet paper?

        Well, Chavis was Obama's hero. Toilet paper was already done, by Cheryl Crow, who granted us the right to use just one piiece - from her seriously expensive compound in the mountains, where few green concessions are obvious.I believe there was some government involvement in the downgrading of the quality of Charman TT actually.

            No, not kidding. There actually was some issue with the amount of paper used when the TT was "squeezably soft", First the toilets, then the paper, for environmental reasons, of course. Right.

      I believe you need to record and photograph everything and keep copies, no one believes "testimony" any more, you can lie through your teeth and never get prosecuted any more "it's too expensive".

          Although I have little pity for people who choose to live in places like NY, I did clearly hear that "officer" say "Public" area. Anything off of street, on private property, is NOT "public".

          The officers assertion that the driveway was "public" because it was visible is totally wrong legally. Public property belongs to the city, county or state, NOT a private residence.

          He was WRONG and somebody needs to stand up to him.

          Perhaps this guy is the local, basement dwelling low-live party house that's the scourge of the neighborhood and the mean neighbor is trying ANYTHING to fix a problem child does not matter. Bending the law in order to "correct" a problem you can't fix legally is just wrong - even if you are right.

            Yes indeed, you are correct, the problem is that the cops and the hamlet (or whatever they call it) don't seem to have heard of this little Constitution/Bill of Rights thing. Probably because it just gets in the way of making more rules "for the good of the people" (remember that phrase? AR used it quite a lot). I always have a chill when the political creeps start blathering "Fort the good of...." That's a red flag if ever there is one...
            A Sci-Fi book series (The Lost Fleet) started to use that for one of the less nice bad guy groups "For the People" when they signed off. I hope we never hear that here. Icky poo....

    One can only wonder about 1: the neighbor who has nothing better to do and 2: police who have nothing better to do. If this is the most significant "crime" taking place in the area in question, perhaps a smaller police department is in order?

    And of course, the police need to learn two words: "private property".
