We have the problem in Arizona that the liberals make a mess of their state, leave because of the mess, and try to enact the same mess here. It would be nice if they would, indeed, sleep in the beds they make---California or anywhere else.
Actually it is not just Arizona. Every state has that problem, whether it be California in AZ or CO or NM or NV. It could also be NY plates in places like Florida or either Carolina or Virginia or any other place. It could also be any out of state license in Texas. Take your pick, they are all bad and bring the Blue Cancer with them.
Everything that needed to be posted has been written save for the following question--ta da!-- Who wants a California orange when you can eat a steelhead trout?
The problem that we run into in Nevada, is that they always complain about the conditions in California (their reason for leaving) yet try to recreate them here. They come here enjoying our lower taxes and no income tax, yet they don't register their cars here because it's cheaper in Ca. They like our new home prices, but now they are making builders add so many amenities to the communities that cause the prices to go up. And the stories go on and on..
That is because their liberal policies are a religion to them. They blame everyone else that their policies screw everything up, without ever realizing it is those policies themselves that are the problem, so they try to move someplace new and "Fix" the place hoping they will do it better.
Remember Atlas Shrugged at the end: They take Galt to the Wayne-Falkland Hotel, to create the illusion that he's not a prisoner; but armed guards are at his door. A series of visitors, beginning with Mr. Thompson, argue, beg, and threaten Galt to tell them what to do to save their skins. Thompson even offers him to become the economic dictator of the nation.
Of course Galt must use THEIR policies to do this.
Galt: "It took me three hours on the radio to tell you why." Thompson: "Oh that's just theory! I'm talking business. I'm offering you the greatest job in the world. Will you tell me what's wrong with it?" Galt: What I told you, in three hours, was it won't work." Thompson: "You can make it work." Galt: "How?" Thompson: "I don't know, If I did, I wouldn't come to you. It's for you to figure out. You're the industrial genius. You can solve anything." Galt: I said it can't be done." ..... This is their attitude, their religion forces them to keep doing the same thing hoping someday someone will figure it out. Unfortunately they never will because as Galt said.
They have already "raped" Colorado and have tried in Idaho, also..............got pretty well shot down. However, the first few years in CO they were shot down also........................
I think you'll find that many of the people with California license plates moving in down the street are the sane folks who have escaped the asylum called California. I escaped this year and have no intention to return, except for short visits. When we moved our first acts were to change the license plates, get Utah driver's licenses and register to vote in Utah where my vote actually means something.
YES... you (hopefully) have no idea what the Legilators have done AND are proposing... I just moved to the Gulch by closing my 68 year old business... outlandish (fraudulent) workers comp, going up about 25% annually again... Unemployment Insurance (no claims) up from .9% to 6.4% with a 20 BILLION shortfall... overtime after 8 hours, not 40 like the other 49 States... Mandates on regulations and employee comp... AND contemplating a $13 hourly Min Wage tied to inflation. NO, do not give them a cent of support, they must drown in their own waste. See "Detroit" for further instructions!
I took a trip to California a year or so ago. I used to live there. What I FELT is that the state was the practical representation of that rotted out tree in the beginning of AS. There is tremendous wealth still there, but the trunk of the tree is rotted out. It will take awhile for the whole tree to fall (the wealth has to be removed), but the die is cast. Any state that would actually elect Nancy Pelosi is doomed.
In Jefferson's day, Liberal was deemed liberal with Liberty. Today it has been completely spun to mean "liberal with stolen tax money for redistribution" and thus rendered meaningless.
Let's stop using the word "liberal" and perhaps use the term "collectivist", which covers the gamut of Governments of Force.
When I was in grade school, in the clutches of the good nuns, a conservative was one who wanted things to remain the same, and a liberal was one who wanted to change things. Under those definitions, I'm afraid that I'm a liberal; just not in the sense that the Left envisions it. I want things to change; smaller, less intrusive government, fiscal and social responsibility and an armed-the-teeth military who doesn't give a damn about 'Political Correctness'...just how to break things and hurt people.
Okay, and you're going to get what you seek... just how? Therein lies the real problem. The Rulers decide, from the candidates to the policies to the wars, while We can while from one election to the next to the next ad nauseum.
Whenever the Great Collapse, governments and rulers will be out of business around this planet. Then, from the depth of hardship and despair, will mankind finally realize that being Governed is the cause, so never create another? That, or will mankind simply become extinct?
I would point out that the liberals of today have completely redefined the word to the exact opposite of Jefferson's use, so I think you're engaging in futility here. Second, no one today reads Jefferson but those who would know the difference anyhow!
True dat...Jefferson is my favorite from our history...in fact I have a replica of the Houdon bust of TJ that I bought at Monticello sitting here on my desk. My political philosophy evolved from reading his writings and biographies about the man.
by using liberal in that way you only aid and abet the corruption of the language and dictionaries. There are a ton of more coherent words. I suggest you use something else which would clearly define the proponents of Force. I do agree that most everything we try to fix these days is an exercise in futility
While I would agree in principle, my wife (a Linguistics grad) will tell you that word meanings change over time with general use. If the general population begin associating a word with a different meaning, the word's meaning actually changes - whether you are an etymological purist or not. In today's vernacular, the word "liberal" doesn't mean anything like that espoused by Jefferson - and society is worse off for the change.
If we're going to substitute words, why don't we just call them socialists!
Call them whatever you wish, other than "liberal". I like "collectivist" as it covers the spectrum, thus avoiding the inevitable tedium over the several varieties, all of which lead directly to tyrannical Force. The shades of difference are quite small while all of them are blood brothers.
None of those could exist without a government to host them!
No, please, no. We are too big to go thirsty. We need to provide for our millions of undocumented newcomers. You will be required to send us your water and your money. Now.
As soon as I can afford to move, I'm leaving the looters to their state. I just hope the new neighbors in Texas or Tennessee don't see I'm from California and decide I must be one of them, come to ruin that state, too.
We all must understand that 1/3 of our produce comes from California. If the farmers don't get the water to grow food no food you that don't produce your own and preserve for the winter are going to get hungry if things don't change this is all across the US. More Great civilization's have failed for a lack of food. To me this isn't a California problem it's a national problem.
Things change...Arizona is capable of growing quite a bit of produce as are other States. Sure, there will be a period of adjustment but it can be done provided it must to meet demand.
Lived in the LA and Phoenix for many years before I left for my gulch. The small problem I see with moving production to arziona is they get their water from the same place as southern California the Colorado River where the snow pack is way down. Could import more through Mexico. In any case to ramp up enough production takes time which means skyrocket prices for a tomato. I look at food prices at the store it's not getting cheaper for people. All this makes me glad I grow a very large part of my consumption.
If we could get the governments out of the conservation business, I suspect the problem will cure itself. That being a pipe dream, I see no hope, unless some people who think correctly get into state legislatures and know WTF they're doing.
While states can't declare bankruptcy, like cities can, in theory California has to live with the system it inflicted on itself. Unfortunately, we should be prepared to see the biggest FEMA rescue in history, after Brown throws up his hands and asks for disaster aid. Exactly how FEMA is going to deliver the water needed is another story, but the rest of the country will bear the cost, regardless.
Depends on whose holding the note. If it's the Chines they may foreclose and lay claim to the property, giving them a beach head without a shot being fired.
A better solution would be to require them to honor their personal responsibility and work their way out of the problem. 50- 100 years of working very hard and seeing only debt reduction as a benefit might cause them to consider their actions in the future.
While this in theory sounds good, it is actually US law that prohibits a foreign government from owning any land in the United States except an Embassy. Private citizens and foreign corporations may, but that land is still subject to US laws. And it can be confiscated in time of war with that foreign nation.
Thanks for filling me in. There has been lots of talk on XM radio, the patriot channel about China taking land or mineral rights for the debt. It good to know our politicians can't collateralize the land.
