Woot! more good news. I couldn't be more pleased, so far, with the direction of our State government.

    Hello AJAshinoff,
    This is a good sign. I am waiting for some states to exert sovereignty in the area of taxation and stop bending over and sending tax dollars to Washington only to be skimmed and redistributed in the first place. The extortion (that's what it is) when the Fed's demand compliance or be denied return of tax dollars for things like highway funds is unconscionable. In this case they risk education monies. I suggest that when that happens they withhold their share upfront.

      The Arizona Senate just put a budget on the new Governors desk that trimmed 2.5% of state money from the budgets from the universities and all state money community colleges. My understanding is that it also channeled some of that money into k-12. Naturally all hell is being raised and people are calling for lawsuits against the Governor should he sign the budget into law.

      Strangely enough our Governor Doug Ducey is the former CEO of Coldstone Creamery. I personally think he knows exactly what he's doing and, as proof, we've had two very sizable companies (Apple being one) move into Arizona from out of state creating hundreds of jobs.

      It makes perfect sense to sue him/the governors office, no?

        Hmmm... an interesting juxtaposition. Take money from higher learning and send it to primary...It sounds like a strategy that pits one faction against another. In any case, if it attracts jobs, particularly high tech ones, what does that say? Very interesting to see how it shakes out.

          I suspect Ducey is of the mind that private industry will invest in the college system hoping to groom people into fields they have need of. I'm very curious to see how this works (I have two kids in college here in Arizona).

            I do believe that economic law prevails. The price of college has skyrocketed because it is true that when you subsidize tuition's you get more demand thus allowing the suppliers (colleges) to jack up the rates. If consumers foot more of the bill hopefully the costs will be more in line with the market.
