What? The Nanny State jumped to conclusions again?

So here's a question: the FDA requires that drugs be tested for 10 years before they can be released to the market. Why shouldn't we require that they do similar due diligence before declaring ANYTHING food-related (salt, trans-fats, MSG, etc.) verboten? Seems like what's good for the goose is good for the gander...
