Interesting. It would be even more interesting if they could segment the population by age as well.

    I see 2 clusters of liberals, 1 west and 1 east, with higher than average population density, using government to give them higher than average income per capita. While the states that claim to be conservative all have lower than average population density and lower than average income per capita.

    Agreed, but I have seen models based on County that conform to the idea you are promoting that are also very instructive and illustrate the point I think you are after.

    The trouble is the state boundaries aren't drawn along ideological lines. If they drew them around urban areas, we could have real liberal and conservative areas.
