The Fountainhead under the Bus

In case someone besides me keeps track of these references: I happen to catch an episode of "Frasier" called "Frasier's Edge," in which the character deals with mid-life crisis. Frasier confesses to his mentor that when he was 8, a larger classmate threw his copy of The Fountainhead under the bus. The novel is mentioned one other time in the series (far as I know) by Martin, Frasier's father. I wonder if Kelsey Grammer is an admirer of Rand's. If so, I've a number of signed Rand first editions and handwritten manuscripts which may interest him. Any chance KG's here in the Gultch?

The movie has other virtues (including body sculpture) that you might enjoy.

When I say The Fountainhead is "mentioned" disparagingly, that is not quite true. In the unedited version of DD, you'll see a most despicable character express admiration for The Fountainhead, though its title is never mentioned. But a focused viewer understands that the evil character is motivated by ideas he learned from that great novel.

Readers in focus know better. But what a powerful image to the teenage audience who'd never read the novel--but saw the movie.

THANK YOU! I hadn't known and I collect, buy, sell and trade first edition, signed, and manuscript Ayn Rand.
Not this is something I can buy or sell, but I may use it in a description of a rare, perhaps unknown Rand-related item.

I remember an old Barney Miller episode that dealt with an architect who blew up a building. Of course, it was treated differently-but Rand is mentioned in the episode. Here is a link to when it aired. (I found it on youtube-but the video is sped up or something-the audio sounds like the characters have all taken puffs of helium) http://www.tv.com/shows/barney-miller/th...

Thanks again khalling! What an astute observation!
It IS at best "shaky," as you say. But it isn't insignificant, at least not for me.
Call me nuts, but I keep track of these things for my business.
    Best, Michael

I have not seen or heard any interviews as such. However, I did see a tweet a few years ago which I thought was sarcastic but since you brought this up maybe not. He was seen at a Hollywood halloween party(Halloween is BIG in Hollywood ) dressed as "the ghost of Ayn Rand" but that's a shaky tie at best

The Fountainhead, as you likely know, is touted disparagingly in Dirty Dancing.

But you remember The Fountainhead mentioned on Home Improvement? How impressive a testament to your memory!

Have you any idea which episode?

    Thank you, I hadn't known.
Has he ever his indebtedness to AR, far as you know, for his ideas?

Tm the Tool Guy? You mean Home Improvement?
That's most impressive and most appreciated. Home Improvement was addressed to a different audience than Frasier.
Not disparaging your notice, you understand. I appreciate it very much.

Simply didn't know about this Rand reference to her on that TV show, which I've seen.

    Thanks again, so much appreciated.

I heard The Fountainhead mentioned in one other show; the one and only episode the Tim the Tool guy. His wife said she was going to her book club and they were reading The Fountainhead. Some other dystopian TV show that I watched once, a guy on the balcony yelled at the aliens (off planet type) to read Atlas Shrugged.
