I do not buy this.

A short while ago I watched the evening news here in Phoenix. Senators McCain and Flake were talking about how bad a precedent this decision by Sony was setting. They urged the need for more Internet security to prevent things like this from happening in the future.

This clip showed me that potentially the entire matter with Sony is bullsh*t. O has been clamoring for regulation and federal or international control of the Internet for some time. Sony coming under attack in this way is far too convenient an excuse for the FedGov to assert authority into what is essentially a private non-government entity. Because of the subject matter of the movie North Korea is a great scapegoat. Who is conducting this attack? Hmm, who determined that it was North Korea?

I suspect something pretty fishy is going on with the end result of federal or international regulation of the web.

I find it interesting, our governments take on this video compared to the one that caused the attack and burned our Embassy in Benghazi. Why wasn't Susan Rice sent out to all the media networks to guide us on who to blame? I guess in the view of our government Muslins just get more respect than some North Korean dictator.

Decisions made based on fear. It saddens me that Sony would cancel the release. If the concern is the human collateral, release the movie streaming. Don't allow the bullies to win.

I see this as a great goad to Obama to hobble the Internet with regulations. Net neutrality anyone?

Why does this whole Interview thing stink of either some black-ops plot by the CIA (nee "Argo"), or a huge advertising stunt by Sony? Has it been produced by "Studio Six", I would not be terribly surprised at this point.

All this really proves is that most corporations in the US have NO thoughts about the need to protect their Intellectual Property from these kinds of hacks.

If they did, the data would be self-scrambling or self-destructing if stolen in the first place.

And the same kinds of safeguards would prevent theft even if the data were transmitted over any internet path.

Maybe this will be a corporate wake-up call for US companies.

But don't bet on it... the credit card data hacks and thefts of the past few years would have all been thwarted if the big finance outfits really cared about their customers and not just saving money on their IT tools. European credit card protection is so far ahead of the US' and the stumbling block, again, is "it would cost a lot for the software and hardware implementation in the US."

Which proves that the banks are not in this for their customers' protection. It's a shame they can't see the value to THEMSELVES if that attitude were to change.

this story has so many legs that are pushing other more important activities of a negative nature affecting the country. after all is said and done nothing is going to happen to the NK if they actually did do all of this stuff. i don't even feel sorry for the movie going public who have nothing better to do than further shrink their brain in the darkness void.

Caving to the ridiculous demands was the worst move possible. It's just as plausible that the NSA perpetrated the hack.

Who did it is not nearly as important as the effect it will have moving forward, the precedent it set. Anyone capable of this will now attempt it seeing that it can be effective. It likely will have a chilling effect on corporate electronic storage and communications. Don't store it or send it if the world shouldn't see it. (Probably a valuable lesson learned.)
