Texas State Guard Saves Lives During Search for Human Remains; September 26, 2014; BY: DFW CBS.
AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM) – A special state search team, trained in rescue and recovery operations and ordered by Gov. Rick Perry to assist Brooks County with locating human remains of suspected illegal immigrants, is also saving lives during its mission.

According to the Texas State Guard, during their first search mission of private ranch land on September 19, they found two people showing signs of heat distress and dehydration. They told team members about a woman who was on the property; reportedly near death. The Texas State Guard members immediately began a secondary search for the woman. Once located, the woman, identified later as a Honduran national, was administered lifesaving aid and evacuated by a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter for further care. All three, as well as two additional people located in the immediate area, were taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Wonder how much the Texas voluntary enrollment would swell if the governor decided to use them for immigration enforcement.

I am not sure what you mean by that, what answer you are fishing for. Would the ranks swell with patriots answering the call? Would people stay away from the State Guard, preferring not to be placed in harm's way? That latter is contrary to the ethos of the volunteers I meet.

The Medical Battalion ("Medical Rangers") conduct large population health care along the border. They do so for two reasons. It gives them practice dealing with mass events. Also, it provides care to Texans who otherwise would go without.
      (See TxSG statement here: https://www.txsg.state.tx.us/operation-l...)
See also this personal blog from one of the Medical Rangers: http://www.acapitolblog.com/2011/07/stat...

But this is not new. It has been running since before 2000. See here: https://www.txsg.state.tx.us/texas-state...

To see all of the agencies involved in Operation Border Star, see the link here from the Department of Public Safety. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/PublicInfor...

I believe that operation is coordinated by the Texas Rangers who are within the DPS. It was ordered by the Governor. See the Governor's website for these related information releases about border initiatives : http://governor.state.tx.us/initiatives/...

Based upon my time living in Texas, I think Texans are some of the most patriotic (in the old America sense of the word) and they would likely rise to the occasion of defending the border if called upon. I wouldn't hesitate to live in a republic of Texas .
