In other words, the local cop saw a car and a kid he didn't recognize, so he pulled me over to find out what I was up to.
In the course of the stop he asked if he could take a look in my trunk. I said "No."
"Have you got something in there you don't want me to find?"
"No."
"Then why don't you want me to look?"
"Because I don't have to. If you think I'm doing something illegal, arrest me."
He wrote me a citation from my burnt-out taillight and told me in no uncertain terms to get out of town. He saw me driving around later that night, still in his town, even made eye contact - and he did nothing. He knew he couldn't make me leave town, and he knew I knew it.
If I could stand up to a small-town jumped-up Barney Fife at seventeen, the people of Beloit sure as hell should stand up to the statist assholes who are proposing to search their homes without cause. This isn't Russia. This isn't China. We still have a Fourth Amendment.
NEVER voluntarily agree to a police search. NEVER.
"I am more than happy to let you know how many firearms I own and of which types, and to that end, I will be open carrying each at any possible convenience.
Thank you."
This is a policy that can not end well.
Cops like him are DANGEROUS. That he's the Chief of Police is downright SCARY. I wouldn't go within 100 MILES of a place where the cops are run by a anti-American Anti-constitution-honoring Oath-breaking psycho.
I can offer to empty your bank account for you. If you are dumb enough to invite me to do it then you deserve to have no money.
NO F*****G WAY!
The police are incredibly arrogant.
The police are incredibly stupid.
The residents are incredibly stupid.
Any combination of the above.
But any rational resident will simply say, "What? are you crazy? Get lost."
I get where CG is coming from. Fire departments often go into people's homes to look at fireplaces and electrical outlets as a public service. This is just a spin on that idea. The article mentioned several incidents of kids having guns without their parent's knowledge. Not every parent is exercising their 2nd amendment right and may feel more comfortable about asking a policeman to look for the guns their kids might be hiding or maybe looking at the kid’s toy guns. It’s still a very big mistake to cooperate with a program like this because it does require people to waive their fourth amendment rights frivolously.
At least, I think that’s what CG meant.
Nothing excuses this crap.
Don't perpetuate the notion that Ayn Rand is about retired gov't workers putting others down to make themselves feel better. She's about exactly the opposite.
Can I have them search my neighbors house to see if he's got my missing fishing gear?
A long, long, time ago I search my 14 year olds room and found a bag full of Mercedes hood ornaments. That was just before my sister in law turned me in to CPS. I apologize for him if you were ever missing one. Thank God, he got over it.
This was a dangerously clever way to get around ‘probable cause’; they are appealing to a parent’s concern over their children’s safety.
that would not be the end of the force-backed action. -- j
thus, young men = thugs
I'll bet he and the entire police department are just salivating over the prospect of finding a gun linked to a crime in someone's house. Asset Forfeiture! Woot! Come on baby, Beloit PD needs a new margarita machine...
for drugs, just for fun. . what kind of perversion can
come up with stuff like this??? -- j
