Correct. You won't find many rural areas that are blue, other than MN and SW WI. Lots of Swedes there. Go figure.

Good analysis. Except for the Scandinavians it sounds similar to Mi. The cities are socialist havens, although I would say that the rural areas are less so than MN. Still, they can't overcome those large voting blocks.

Having grown up there, I can shed some light. The Dem party in MN is called the Dem Farmer-Labor party. Large emphasis on Farmer. There are many Scandinavians in MN and they tend to be positively disposed towards socialism (not sure why, but look at Europe - the Scandinavian countries have been socialist for a long time). This is a bit different in the ring of suburbs around the twin cities, but the city cores and outstate are nearly all blue, while the ring of suburbs is solid red. That's how the likes of Michelle Bachman can win in the suburbs, and Al Franken can win the state (although he stole it the first time).

    Good afternoon freedomforall,
I have had the pleasure of meeting quite a few Minnesotans and making friends with more than one. I have always found them to be fun loving warm, possessing mid-western charm and common sense. This has baffled me regarding Franken. Oh well, there is always one in every crowd. :)
    Regards,
    O.A.

He has one thing going for him... he's not Al Franken... Al got re-elected... makes one wonder it there really are a lot of Rose Nylands in Minn. No offense to Minnesotans generally.

Robbie, please don't make fun of Bill Maher. He is one of the most intelligent and thoughtful and and HA HA HA HA okay I can't say that with a straight face. What a jackass. Another celebrity over estimating their importance.
