Dems Lose Big in Midterm Elections, But is it Enough?

excerpt:
There is good news here: The people of the United States have grown tired of what they are seeing in Washington and in their home states. The control that liberals have had over this country is slipping, and I am sure that they are reeling this morning as they realize that the American people are tired of their act.

The core problem is out of control spending and its associated debt. Reps won't touch it: Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, umpteen other transfer payment schemes, and defense (LOL).

Politicians are very strong on cutting spending, except for Medicare, the military, and Social Security, i.e. most of the budget.

True. Add to that their pet projects in their districts (e.g., bridges to nowhere) for the sole purpose of justifying re-election. That's at least 535 multi billion dollar programs (over each project life) that won't be cut in any meaningful way.

The author points out that Oprahma can veto anything the con-gress throws at him if he doesn't approve, and the R con-gress doesn't have votes to override.
This happened under Clinton and the Republicrats whined and compromised away everything in the 'contract with amerika'.
I think they will do the same in the next 2 years, but imo they should force the socialist scum to veto everything and make the stakes clear in the next election for POTUS. It can't turn out any worse than their spineless actions in the past 20 years.

I disagree. Some of the measures made with CWA lead to economic success under Clinton. It also made what would have been local races into a national focus. In this election what have the republicans actually promised to do? Considering the weakness of the leadership er can only hope they won 't allow Obams policies to spread as fast. But under CWA they rolled several things back, including welfare, tax reform, the fiscal responsibility act was passed but ruled unconstitutional(presidential line item veto)

If I read this correctly you disagree on my conclusions about accomplishment of CWA. What did the Clinton compromises gain in the long term? Do you disagree on making O veto everything? Do you think pushing Clinton after the repudiation of his policies by voters would have been more or less successful than the compromises? I think Republicans are just the other side of the same pot metal coin, and they proved with the Clinton compromises they can't be trusted to advance the cause of individual liberty. Republicans have to confront the government monster to slay it. Just giving the dragon a little less to eat this year only makes it hungry.

I agree. Any presidential action Obama can take is done in pencil not pen. POTUS 2016 can fix this mess.
I’ve heard Republicans from time to time suggest it’s time for a new contract -- apparently they didn’t get the memo that signing a pledge in a meaningless contract was a dismal failure. No more gimmicks! Don’t go there again!

Believe it or Not, as Happy as I was yesterday that the Republican Party had a great day and will be taking control of the U.S. Senate in the next Congressional Session, I just attended a Tax Camp the other day (Continuing Professional Education for Certified Public Accountants CPA's), and word is among the CPA Profession that Republicans are going to "Sell" to the American People the idea of Simplifying the Tax Code and Eliminating the Alternative Minimum Tax, but in Reality, they are going to Compromise with the Democratic Party and Secretly Raise all of our Taxes not by increasing the Income Tax Rate, but rather by Eliminating Many of our Favorite Deductions which in the past have lowered many people's Tax Liability or Increased their Refunds, and unfortunately, the limitation on the Mortgage Interest Deduction will be reduced to $500,000 from $1,000,000 over a 4-year phase-in period, there will be fewer tax brackets but we will all likely fall in the next highest bracket, and the personal exemptions will be eliminated but rather consolidated into a larger standard deduction, and all of this just because Washington D.C. needs more money...

I'm always worried when politicians and pundits read too much into election results. I think it was a clear vote against Obama but not necessarily a complete endorsement of Republicans. Each party screws the people and eventually gets voted out. Hopefully the Republicans understand we want them working for us. If not, they too will be voted out soon.
