Why are we tolerant of these 'no tolerance' rules in schools anyway?

I actually had a brilliant idea the other day to completely take control out of the hands of the public school over certain situations like this.

Throw the halloween party and parade the school would normally do in your neighborhood or at your house for your son(s) or daughter(s) class. Invite everyone including parents, encouraging them to allow Robin Hood to show up with his bow and arrow, and the pirates with their swords, and the fairies with their wands, all with the understanding that they must handle them responsibly. Throw the party in the middle of a school day. Same goes for Christmas pageants. The children can practice at their homes to perform ‘We three kings” or “Silent Night” or any other banned christian song, then throw a party, calling it a Christmas party, where the children can perform for their parents---again in the middle of a school day. My kids are grown, but if I and they were younger, this is what I would do. You can’t make your point on school grounds; likewise, they can’t make theirs on your ground. ;)

That would be an interesting approach and I'd be all for it...I just wonder how many would actually do it. The parent involvement and communication among them, as far as I can tell, isn't large numbers. Also, school meetings should be demanded and parents should show up in droves with a list of demands. Parents don't realize how much power they could have if they communicated and organized with one another, but since they are busy and quite oblivious I'm not sure what exactly it would take for them to take notice and start talking openly and throw some ideas around. Probably it being too late is what it would really take.
