Excerpt: " ...A United Airlines Boston-bound flight on Monday afternoon made an emergency landing after the wing of the plane fell apart mid-air...."

Does anyone else sense 'A BIG One' coming ?

Between the clot shots, train wrecks, airline problems, jacked-up prices, illegal aliens, crime, and overall govt corruption... how long can this country last...? Oh, that's right, this is all by design.

Well, I want to see the aircraft maintenance forms.
This looks like deterioration from lack of corrosion control. Just a quick visual isn't really defining.
Birdstrike? Not likely. Migratory birds leave dents. I'd not believe the pattern of damage caused by fowl play.

If sticky gooey stuff is found inside the wing, I'm mistaken.

Saw an insect strike on a T-38 in the spring of 88. Watched it happen. Al and I looked at each other to verify we saw the same thing. A hard Cicada wiped out the compressor, combustion and turbine .... cascade effect. Sticky gooey confirmed.

      corrosion?
or a lack of bonding with the new composites or bad composites

i'd buy corrosion on an older jet for sure
depends on how old this one is

they love their new wonder materials....

I'd go with some sort of composite. The fracturing pattern would be consistent with one impact and then air pressures blowing out the rest. It's been so long since I worked on aircraft, or kept up with manufacturing process/materials that I really don't know how that foil is made.

Built very special welders for Boeing 30 years ago. The data acquisition was extraordinarily strict. Every weld had 15 to 17 characteristics monitored and recorded in a host computer. Liability was the reason.
