Bibi Netanyahu, leader in Israel, compared this attack to Pearl Harbor, in order to get support and assistance from Americans.
Are Comparisons to Pearl Harbor Accurate?
FDR knew in advance that the Japanese fleet was going to attack. FDR didn't warn Pearl because he wanted the US to go to war. This was widely publicized in newspapers in 1941-1942. Further, American and many other countries Citizens were barbarically massacred and taken hostage. That being said, Bibi has been no stranger to calls for more active military intervention against Hamas and his government was hanging by a thread - largely in part to an opposition who IMHO is suicidal. This gives him political leverage to do what he has argued for years needs to happen (and I happen to agree with him): utterly destroy Hamas.
Of course, it could also be the beginning of the end as prophesied in the Book of Revelation. If that is the case, we will start to see massive armies line up to assault Israel on every side. Oh, wait. Isn't that what Hezbollah just did? Hmmmm.....

Regardless of that, the US fedgov would be stupid to assist in anything more than punishment of those who planned and/or carried out the attack.
Of course, the US fedgov has been stupid ever since Reagan was shot.
We have witnessed a Hamas "Bulge" and now the follow up.
They have infiltrated the military to the point of ignoring the obvious-that Gaza is a staging ground for military assaults on Israel.
Israel used to police Gaza and decided it was too expensive, so they pulled out. Then they were attacked through the tunnels from Gaza to Israel. Then Israel attacked.
Now Israel has ignored the Gazan problem long enough to let this attack be planned and executed. History keeps repeating.
Give peace a chance? Not working in that scenario. I have no peaceful answer. NIFO it? Or raze it?
