Another Half-Baked War

Our “strategy,” devised by our reluctant, unqualified commander in chief, will be bombs, missiles, and drones from the air in Syria and Iraq, our fingers crossed that a rag tag outfit of so-called moderate Syrian rebels, the army of a brand new Shi’a Iraqi government, and the Kurds will do the work on the ground. No US boots (except advisor boots) on the ground is our mantra. Our “allies” are hemming and hawing about providing financial or military support. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States swear they’ll try to stop the flow of funds to the Islamic State, and Turkey swears it will staunch the flow of recruits across its border with Syria. We have not tightened security at our welcome-mat border with Mexico, although the Islamic State is supposedly hell bent on inflicting another 9/11. A cadre of turbaned “immigrants” bearing a box labelled HANDLE WITH CARE, NUCLEAR WEAPONRY could probably enter without challenge; everybody else has.

"That was written before our president backed away from his Syrian red line. Now, provoked by the beheadings of two American journalists (kidnapped from a war zone where the US was not involved), [snip] Obama has “sort of” declared war.
War is life and death, not a “sort of” political exercise."
Except for all the criticisms of President Obama, I agree with the rest of the article too.
The people who murdered the journalists address President Obama personally, almost daring him to initiate military action. "I double dare you to cross this line!!" I can see how US military involvement helps their propaganda, helps convinces people to follow their extremists ways instead of moderates. It seems like is falling for it, not seeing the childish ploy. "Oh yeah. We'll show you. We're gonna cross that line you dared us not to cross!"
