Portland (OR) to become the next Detroit?

Walmart's shuttering ALL of it's stores in Portland. Nike and others are already gone.

The chickens have finally come home to roost. Just goes to show that Democrat crime "policies" simply don't work, no matter how hard they wish it.

I'm outside Rochester. Seems to be slowly spiraling downward. I don't go into the city anymore at all. I'll pass through it on 490, but that's it.

Yeah NYC is a money vacuum. It keeps sucking. Sucking the life out of the rest of NYS. Used to live in Rochester. Hasn't gotten any better?

Standing in line at a convenience store gas station I noticed the NY Post headline saying NYC is spending $30 MILLION a DAY to house and care for "migrants" aka ILLEGAL ALIENS! With all the loot NYC is sucking from NYS I'm sure the taxes levied on me is covering some of that.

About 30 years ago I read in our local rag that for every $1 in NYS taxes paid by NYC, NYC gets back about $1.30 in services and payments, but every NYS $ my county (Monroe) pays to the state, it gets back about $0.70 in services. See how that works? I bet it's worse now. A lot worse.

My Brother lives in NYC and he says the same thing. Saw it off and float it away. Have a flamethrower ready on the new shore so that the liberal rats that jump off don't make it.

Their crime policies are working just fine.

Once you figure out their goal is to increase it.

Absolutely!!!!!!! That would be fantastic. Give the cost of the state to Connecticut, NJ or split it!!

The sad thing is NYC was loved by Ayn Rand as a testament to what free men can accomplish. I'm sure she's made a few rolls in the grave over what it has become. Back in the '50s and '60s, when I was a kid, a trip to NYC would have been considered a wonderful vacation trip. My first experience in NYC in the early '90s was bad and I was only there long enough to switch trains.

Personally, I expect Seattle to be the next target. In fact, I'm surprised CHAZ/CHOP terrorists didn't include a Walmart or Costco in their downtown takeover. They could've survived for months.

Portland has kicked out most of the "good people" who once lived there. The few realistic people still in Oregon live >100 miles away from Portland and that's the reason you have many counties which want to secede and join Idaho. (That aside from the depressing trend that Idaho is trending more and more blue in major population centers as well.)

And let's not forget that Oregon literally murdered someone trying to stand up for what was right: LaVoy Finicum. And they had help from the Feds.

I was there last summer. Tents all over along the sides of the roads - even in the medians. Garbage strewn all over on the highways that run through the city proper. It isn't turning into Detroit - its already there.

The scariest part of this Portland situation, (and Detroit, Baltimore, San Fransicko) is that the rot spreads. The virus philosophy that destroys cities jumps like fleas from a dog, out of the wreckage into another city and infests and destroys that too.

The prior regimes of Kwame Kilpatrick and Coleman Young are the ones that trashed Detroit. The current mayor is a dino and really pro business. We have a place in Brush Park in Midtown that is way too much fun. The East side of Detroit - not so much. But then most cities have their "bad neighborhoods." And remember when Antifa tried to torch Detroit? Duggan "not in my Town."

New York State would be a much better place to live if NYC could be sawn off and floated into the Atlantic... well, maybe hook a chain onto Albany and tow it down the Hudson along with NYC.

Agree, media is dishonest, and public education is eroding the pillars of our civilization.

A number of well-known companies were started in Portland, but later moved away: U-Haul, Tektronix, Columbia Sportswear....
Maybe the current wave of lawlessness and anarchy is just the end-game, of Portland's continuing hollowing-out process.

I disagree completely. Good guys were told there were no problems. The problems were Good Guys, so keep your head down.

This is a problem with people believing the media, and not being involved in their local communities. And even more of the latter.

We need 2 parents working to get ahead. And then we have communists raising our kids.

When I left University in 1992, I saw the watering down of courses because their difficulty was turning kids off to certain degrees.

These are all seeds. And nobody sees them all. My parents never finished High School, much less could explain what should/should not be taught back then. Today... They'd set the schools on fire!

This is exactly what happens when the good guys become apathetic and merely roll over for the forces of evil. The end result is a loss of everything that was created by the good guys. Only the cesspool of evil remains while the good guys still remain apathetic.

” Democrat crime "policies" simply don't work, no matter how hard they wish it.”
I beg to differ, the result is exactly what they intend.
Defund the police is so they can put in a national centralized (controlled ) law enforcement. Think SS.
Demoralizing the police , corrupting them , defunding them, arresting and convicting them for doing their job add Soros DA’s releasing criminals and not charging them. The summer of love taught the ignorant black predators that they were entitled to commit crimes and violence because of a historical narrative that they are somehow the victims of 150 yrs ago.
Increase the crime rates and point the finger at the wrong group , It’s the old tried and true Hegelian dialectic 101
Create a problem that will cause your objective to be desired as a solution. It’s how we got the central bank and how we have been led to slaughter with the endless wars.

Glad you found this news item and reported it. As America descends into ever greater criminality (evidenced by huge increases in shoplifting), look for one of capitalism's greatest achievements--the supermarket--to be consigned to history. Thieves and a leftist judicial system that enables them will have this to look back on in future years as one of their "achievements" as they force society to return to barter and black markets.

Tyler Durden at ZeroHedge.com published an account of the Portland crime situation, apparently derived from recent Twitter posts. Regarding Portland's insufferable crime rate, Durden cited Andy Ngo's comment: "... Antifa-BLM 2020 riots normalized urban criminality."

This closing of Walmart's last two Portland city stores is tragic news for honest shoppers who aren't committed to the leftist agenda of destroying America thru unvetted "immigration" and no-cash-bail release of vandals and professional shoplifters.
