Taking History Away

I don't know whose idea this was but it smacks of divorcing tradition and pride away from serving units to destroy those ties which help them to act as one. You would think the powers that be would want to keep such units as this as cohesive as possible. What a recruiting tool. But then, we are winding down and drawing down our military forces so we cannot withstand an aggression from without or a takeover from within.

It sucks that their unit is being disbanded, but at the same time I understand the need to reduce force numbers now that the war is finally winding down. You just don't need as many soldiers during peace times as you do during a war.

I agree, but to disband an honored unit in favor of one with less of a storied history? As for the drawdown for the peace 'dividend', the Latin adage "Pax, para bellum" comes to mind. If we must drawdown our military forces, they better be the meanest, best equipped, best trained bunch of SOBs ever to walk the face of the earth. And loyal to the Constitution and the American people, not some tinpot dictator wannabe.
