You donā€™t strike me as easily influenced. What make you feel so differently this time?

President Xi .. has kicked a couple of own goals:
    - suppressed privately owned business activity in favor of state-owned companies
    - delayed the news of the coronavirus until after the trade deal was signed with the United States.

pathological liars .. . reported daily deaths as a percentage of cases as
    2.1%, 2.1%, 2.1% (!)
But the hit to China's economy is real and huge.
Coal consumption halved, air pollution 20% to 50% down.

We should not leave the subject of China until the terms of the peace settlement, with the Chicoms or any successors, are stated. This should include the return of territory stolen from India in 1962 and from Vietnam in 1990. It will also include China leaving the seven artificial islands it created in the South China Sea.

Author, from my town, has interesting and informed views, and is often right.

I hope you are right, Thor. It has been the case with the past so-called virus threats and I thought they were exaggerated then. This time I am not as confident.

"Chaos at hospitals .. lack of supplies, equipment. " Do you suppose our brutal sanctions against Iran could have something to do with that?

That's why my title asks a question. ;^)
I am not certain which source is more trustworthy in this particular case.

Ok, we can look at this from 2 perspectives>
1, they have never told the truth, except their irreverence for America and Christians...so why would they be telling the truth now.
Maybe there have been 210 deaths...but was it really from the beer flu?...did anyone check to see if these people that supposedly died where protestors of the government or not?

2, OR...Maybe the BBC is lying...

Sure. It undermines their authority to have their "perfect" leaders assailed with the results of their own assumed "infallibility" ...

Countries under dictatorial rule always underreport catastrophic events at home.

Their propaganda machine use crisis or natural catastrophe in countries they consider adversaries as discouragement for their population, lest they harbor positive thoughts about them.

By the same logic, they suppress the same news at home.

    Nothing new there.

In this special case I give more cred to the BBC figure.

The reports from Iran are grim:
Censorship, denial, no lockdown or quarantine, blame the 'enemy',
Chinese despots build hospitals in 7 days, in Iran the mullahs dig thousands of graves in one week.
Chaos at hospitals .. lack of supplies, equipment.

What they do: 3-year sentences and lashings for ā€˜rumour mongersā€™.
China has sent a team and may ban flights from Iran.
