I might add, I was the first lady elected to the city council in their 100 year history and the first lady Mayor Pro-Tem. I had a zoning election over-turned. I have a proven record as a h_ raiser. For good causes, of course!

It's a reaction to a problem - not the problem itself. Fix the problem. The real problem, however, isn't necessarily the education system. It's usually the homes the kids come from in the first place.

She said the problem was new over-built schools the school board wanted to ship students to. The source of that is the "homes the kids come from"? The homes are in the wrong place to match the school locations?

The number one cause of poor education is parenting (lack thereof) and the home environment. The second is the actual educational institution.

The topic of the thread is forced busing to compensate for overbuilding schools. 25n did a good job stopping it in this case.

But to follow the change in topic, the number one cause of generally poor and destructive education is ideas: the philosophical state of the culture, with a major influence from John Dewey and the Pragmatists, as in everything else intellectual in this country. That corrupts both the intellectual establishment controlling education and the parents.

Good home influence directly on children's education is a parental responsibility and a requirement along with proper curricula and teaching methods in the schools, requiring parents also to hold a rational, individualistic philosophy and sense of life themselves. The conservative mantra constantly inserted promoting faith and family is not a solution.

We've seen how busing worked out, by the "quality" of education those kids have received.

You have to ask whether busing was really for equalizing the racial makeup in schools, or was it just for the money, as schools get increased funding, the more students they have.

In this case the busing was proposed to make use of underused to schools. In general it has been, and began as, race-based social engineering to the detriment of the individual. The funding was supplied to impose that.

I was in junior high when busing first started in the 70s.
It made it impossible to create lasting friendships.
When the people you form connections with live many miles away, you can't afford to drive to see them (if you have a car) and you can't afford the toll call to phone across town, you can't really form friendships.

I got that election over-turned because the Council couldn't spell 'stupid'. They failed to publish the Ordinance calling the election in English and Spanish! Whoops!

Forced busing for social manipulation has been morally wrong since it was imposed on Boston for racial motives by a judge decades ago in an enormous controversy.

Forced busing used to be so controversial that it seemed to have been phased out. Now the Democrat 'progressives' are bringing it back, loudly promoting it and denouncing as "racist" anyone who ever opposed it, as if it had never been morally denounced for good reason.

It's one more bad consequence of government control over schools along with the lefts' own overt racism. It was pushed back in controversy for obvious reasons, but the premises were rarely challenged, which allowed it to come back once the left waited out the controversy that few remember today. Likewise for Affirmative Action racism.

Will let you all know tomorrow after I visit the powers that be to see if I prevailed or they did.

You will let us know why you disagree with it only after seeing who prevailed? Is that what you meant? Are they doing it there for their traditional racist social manipulation motives?

I won! Threatened to go before the school board and scream 'til their hair fell out! It would have hit the news paper! Their reasoning was they have over-built schools following a multi-million dollar bond issue. They needed students in the other schools.

Good work. What's wrong with them that it takes screaming at them to get them to understand that their actions will be reported as news -- to get them to understand what should have been common sense to start with, and enough common sense to not overbuild schools in the wrong place before that? It's another instance of government causing more problems to "solve" problems it caused itself.

They deliberately built schools too big and in the wrong places because a state bond subsidized it? Did the bond subsidy require a minimum size to qualify? Are some of the existing schools overcrowded or do they only want students designed for the wasted schools?
