Some people are legitimately victims. Victims of crime, or victims of an oppressive government. But it is something to try to do something about it, and another to make a profession of it (being a victim).

Old-fashioned American Constitutional conservative dinosaurs are not victims.
The real victims just group think look down their long lib noses at such dinos for appearing antiquated enough to deserve extinction.

I thin victimhood is one of the core tenants of their Identity Politics platform. It's pretty hard to pander to a particular group if you can't convince them that somehow they're victims of something us old evil white guys have done. But single them out by group, and they can be convinced that people like me created the common cold and rainy weekends.

The left likes to create victims and then persuade them that their only course of action is to accept their victimhood status and then support leaders who will acknowledge and pander to that status - without actually doing anything to help others get out of this status.

Well, the left siding with victims is not exactly correct.

They are siding with people THEY consider victims, e.g. can be made victims as a result of capitalism, tax reforms, and sane and prudent laws that protect the majority of the population.

Try to criticize the left's immigration policies for example and see where they will place you, even if you are a black person and otherwise would be "qualified" as a victim.
