Well now, sometimes the Government gets it right. All those silos up in the Dakotas that are still functional, I suppose, my daddy was the GC! He always 'brought the job in on contract on time!' Even challenged the Union in Indianapolis and won!

Looks like the building department has backed off in trying to stop the project, at least for the time being, and the construction proceeds. Perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I did too, because I was so tired of the demonrat obfuscation and lies, and the relentless attempts they fund to overrun us with people from down south they lie to.

Speaking as a lifelong contractor and civil engineer, who has managed infrastructure for the government but mostly private builders, I fully agree!

This is how all infrastructure should be done. Government should never have been put in charge of it. People and businesses are much better at it!

I actually contributed $100 for this through Go Fund Me, a first for me. I rarely (not "never") can afford to contribute to good causes, due to financial circumstances. This seemed to be such an outlier and good cause (I know, they all are) that I coughed it up. I'm glad I did as I hope it sent a message. It did make my day, and perhaps my week.

They have to dig down far enough to prevent people from just burrowing under. I think they go down like 10 feet. On rough terrain its hard to get the heavy equipment in to do that regardless the type of soil. Add to that the fact that the barriers are steel - and steel isn't cheap. While I'd love for it to be cheaper, sometimes things are what they are.

Cool. I gave a little money for that. Ben Shapiro is right about government just doesn’t do anything effectively. Particularly democrats.

Zero tolerance and a stout wall stops the illegals and the tax free zone proves just how much better life is when people are left alone to be productive. Then it spreads to the locales that get it and declare the 16th amendment unconstitutional.
    (I can dream.)

We need that for the whole country but doing it just at the border would have been an even greater draw for illegal aliens...yes?/no?

Is it possible this 'wall' is something more than a wall? It does seem to be awfully expensive even if you add in purchase of land access if that was done. I'm just curious.

Actually it was my idea to do it on this side of the border where it might actually mean something for Americans.

    Thanks.
"The section of the wall in the El Paso area will cost $6 million to $8 million, Kobach said.

The wall spans about a half-mile near Mount Cristo Rey in Sunland Park, New Mexico, that was not covered by existing government fencing – a decision made at least partially because of the rough terrain.

Kobach said Border Patrol agents in the area have told him hundreds of immigrants have crossed there illegally, and more than $100,000 worth of drugs has been smuggled through the gap."

So it's $2,273 to $3,030 per linear foot on difficult terrain.

I thought doing it privately was a good idea, but I thought it could have been encouraged by making the border a tax haven zone. (Lower taxes are usually a good idea;^)

The city is trying to stop the wall now after they gave them the green light...read Brian's tweets below in the article.

I can't find what the cost is either, but is touted to be much less than any one else and they have not used up the 20M, from what I understand.

If it was a mile and it cost $20 million, then that is just as expensive as the feds insanely expensive estimate of $4,000 per linear foot.
Could you afford to build a wall around your 1/4 acre lot if it cost you $1.6 million just for the wall? Does it have gold plated fixtures, a hot tub, and a hospital?
I couldn't find any detail on the cost, but here is Fox's report:
    https://www.foxnews.com/us/we-build-w...

(It is being built on private land owned by a company headed by Jeff Allen.
I guess he has done well since his experience as a train tramp in Atlas Shrugged ;^)

Good for El Paso! Wow! That is great. Thanks for the info. We only got the one announcement on the news. That's the Texas way...do it in one day. Pay for it. When I get time I'll tell you what I did and brag a bit. N

OUC, it may have been a mile, but I think I pretty clearly heard 300 feet and that was to complete the mile. You could be right though, I mowed the front 40 with the John Deere yesterday and it was hot as Hades, so I may have been cloudy when I heard it.

I thought it was a Mile of wall in 3 days on private land. It was an area that was considered impossible to put a wall up. It was also an area inwhich they catch about 100 people a day.

They commented they were able to erect their wall without any red tape. Faster, better, and cheaper than the Feds, as always!
