Become part of the collective mind.
    Become BORG.
    Resistance is futile.

It's almost happening now. Witness what happens to a Millenial when their smartphone runs out of juice when they're nowhere near a place they can recharge it. Cold sweat and outright panic sets in quickly.

There are unfortunately many who would welcome the idea of not having to carry around a piece of equipment to remain "jacked in" to the social networks. Instant Wikipedia access would make them feel all powerful and knowing.

What happens to a brain that gets hacked? How much could such a device affect rational thought, when simple propaganda can shut down logical thought processes? While I don't like too much government regulation, this is one area that I would endorse the plodding FDA bureaucracy to force a deliberately slow acceptance of this technology.

I'm in the process of writing a novel that addresses what a society with bionic supplements like this are common would look like. Of course my protagonist is one of the "slugs" who declines the privilege of instant communication.

Hmmm, makes me think of the Jetson days when it was predicted we would all have our own personal flying cars by 2000.

More people needed a better focus and understanding of objective reality for that. Strict collective faith in subjectivism does not produce flying cars.

Agree 100%, Solver. Same thing applies to useful downloading brain implants by 2039.

Just imagine the masses coded by Google for social altruism, having a strong pathological desire to give their labor and soul to other people. It would be the “socialist utopia.”
Of course not everyone will get the same treatment.

Yeah, they'd be so selfless they'd die of starvation for lack of will to even take care of themselves. Others would become "Reevers" and eat the elites that didn't get the treatment, as in the movie "Serenity" from the TV series "Firefly".

Yeah, trying to dumb down the planet’s population did not work out very well.

"...did not work out very well." LOL, I guess not! It's as if it were Atlas Shrugged on steroids where the main population dies off from total incompetence and a small portion becomes an army of Cuffy Meigs terrorizing the galaxy. Unfortunately, a local John Galt was nowhere to be found.

This whole brain implant thing brings to mind the novel "Battlefield Earth" where a supposedly peaceful race (Psychlos) are suddenly converted into really nasty creatures by the use of a brain implant. There was a movie made of it starring John Travolta, but the movie never really explains the brain implant discovery and eventual removal from a handful of survivors.

Who wouldn’t want to be eager to work very hard to pay back reparations to the Google World Bank for being born a privileged white patriarchal male?

Why fear knowledge? Having knowledge means that one can apply it to reality and to creative processes. If everyone had all the known knowledge, then those who make the effort of having ideas can create knew knowledge. What is wrong with that and why should it be feared?

And, at the same time making Humans obsolete.

I think increasing the amount of compartmentalized information in the brain will not increase the amount of integrated information. IMO, that process is a function of the Mind.

I think it will further destroy our connection to the mind and our ability to gain insight into things we have no back up information. In essence, creating a laziness against engaging into that process.

You will only become what is in your head and nothing more.

It has been my observation that is exactly what the Nephilim were like...all info but no integrations of that info.

PS...what happens to these implants during a strong solar storm, high intensity electron bombardments and cosmic radiation. If it renders our power grids and communication networks worthless...what the hell is it going to do to your head?
