A customer was just in and saw my WIJG t-shirt. He laughed and said "Atlas Shrugged...I am about half way thru the book right now". He said he had heard others talk about it and knew it was a classic. We talked a little about Ayn Rand and he sounded very interested in her personal story. I told him the first 2 movies were out and part 3 would be out September 12th. He asked about the title and I slipped. I told him John Galt appears in part 3 of the book. He said "Oh so he is a real guy". Oops, guess I spoiled that part. It was fun listening to him describe the characters. Gave him a Shrug card.

I like that Winter. I admit that I stay when people start to vent. Sometimes it's like they have been waiting forever to say some things and they are happy that someone finally "gets it".

I think there has to be that one-to-one connection most of the time, to really hook people into that world. It's like they have a companion for what they're discovering.
I've gotten my "intro to AS and why you should see it" lecture down to about 2 1/2 minutes.
I give the world situation: in any group, there are those that are always there when there is work to be done, always coming up with new ideas about how to make things better or faster, always etc, etc. [listener nods] and then I talk about "the other kind of people" - who avoid work, make personal phone calls, [listener usually chimes in at this point] AND I make sure to make the point that the second group doesn't like the first group. And we're going along, and I get in that the producers get really tired of special laws passed that seem like a penalty for doing the right thing, and then I say, So....what do you think would happen if the "doers", the "Producers", just.............quit?
Most people get a look of horror on their faces, and I saw the book and the movie will show you some of what happens. and I hand them a JG card, tell them how to find where the movie's showing, and walk. Leaving is the hard part, because you want to really convert them right that minute and you know you'll be able to win one over. But you have to leave, because "winning over" is something each person has to do for himself.
    Fun, though.

I was happy to hear he read it because he heard people talking about it. It makes me feel if we keep the conversation going more people will find Atlas Shrugged and an alternative to what we have now.
