Two totally different questions that are frequently used synonymously.
Most people have feelings first then develop a "rational" explanation about why they have the feelings. This does not always yield reasonable results.

I have to disagree with her on this part,
“...you keep your feelings to yourself.”

There are definitely times to share your feelings. Just don’t confuse them with rational thinking.

There are situations when you must make a decision under ambivalent conditions, when you have two equally rational choices and not all the facts are in.

I encountered it many times, in fact that is the norm rather than the exception.

There is such a thing as a "gut instinct" or "gut feeling" that many of us rely upon when choosing one of the options. Then as things progress, you keep monitoring and adding facts as they become available.

Pray that your decision was the correct one. Never blame someone else for making it for you.

Suppose you rationally pursue the goals of making money and getting free time to sip Oban scotch in a place with a peaceful view of a city. Rational honest interactions get you there. But why Oban and not some other treat like good ice cream? Why a view of a city instead of a cabin in the woods? Maybe you can think of some reasons, but at some point you get to de gustibus non disputandum. You can't reason what you like.
