You can get falsely accused and slapped around just so much and like the old Popeye cartoons: "That's all I can stands, 'cause I can't stands no more!" and you grab whatever your spinach is and raise holy hell. It's either that or surrender into servitude.

This is one of the reasons I despised working in Oakland. It was a constant battle with the "non English speaking people" to be able to orderly cash out of a store without being pushed aside or stepped in front of. When I held my ground you could tell they were calling me names. It's amazing I wasn't stabbed. There were occasions where it seemed other customers intervened on my behalf. About a year ago I had such people try to push me and my kids aside an isle of a local hardware store. This appeared to be a couple in their 50s and their son. They actually had smiles on their faces when they did it. Pushing my kids out of the way?...bad idea. They actually assumed I'd just step aside. I just went toe-to-toe. People always react really surprised when somebody like me stands up to them. 30 years ago they wouldn't be shocked at all.
