Playing devil's advocate here, it seems they are using correlation to demonstrate causality. Maybe it's the other way around. What if people with psychotic tendencies are simply more likely to use marijuana regularly?

I have been thinking these things but not all at once in such a succinct chunk.
Canada is a perfect example.
Although I do know a few very productive, well functioning, objective, and capitalistic people who have been using marijuana since they were young and were good contributing citizens.
Not a user myself and not reliant on the social system.

Read "Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence" in a recent Imprimis newsletter (availble online). In it, the author, whose spouse, who worked in a mental institution, has first hand evidence of this problem.

He also goes on to cite several studies, over the past several decades, that prove that daily use of pot has led to violent and even deadly behavior that has been hidden from the public, by tax greedy politicians and lobbyists.

The movie "Reefer Madness" looks to have been based more on real experience, than merely being used to scare prospective users.

If marijuana use wasn't problematic, why is it that drug rehab is listed as one of the systems that will be supported by the taxes collected from its sale?

You are asking to prove that there is no proof in most studies, Look at the study and confirm for yourself that it has no causal basis. Look at any other study and see if you can find a causal basis or merely a correlation.

There is only one study I can think of that has a proven causal connection and that is that cigarette smoking causes cancer.. And even there, not every smoker gets cancer. They did not conduct a study that I know of to calculate the percentage of those who get cancer and those who don't and find out why.

The information I had was from a grant application I worked on in college for rehabilitation studies. If it is incorrect then I'd like to know that so I can make appropriate revisions to my current understanding.

Yes they are. But the number of incidents has shown a causal rise with the legalization of marijuana. Those are the studies right out of Colorado's own DMV. You agree with me that marijuana is unconditionally a psychotropic drug which distorts the senses. It shouldn't be a surprise therefore that a problem which already exists with alcohol is then amplified when another judgment-distorting chemical is added to the mix. The question is how many accidents and deaths we are willing to accept as casualties offsetting "letting people do what they want."

The only circumstances in which marijuana stays in your system for a month is if you are a regular and daily smoker of it for a long time, in which the concentrations build up in your fat. Blood levels of THC have a half life of about 31 hours in a healthy person, so less than 1% of the dose would be present after 8 days. Flashbacks? Don’t be ridiculous. It isn’t LSD. If a heavy smoker quits cold turkey and runs a 5K off the couch, they will probably feel a residual high based on the fat stored THC that gets released during their first intense physical activity. People don’t just start tripping balls months after smoking or ingesting THC. Please show me a shred of evidence that this actually happens.

Accidents happen, and murder and negligent driving is already illegal and the people who perpetrate those crimes should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Driving while inhibited on public roads is already illegal. Responsible people will be responsible regardless of law - they have morals. Moral and responsible people recognize that substances can alter your behavior and perception in bad ways.

Do you have any evidence that the study itself is flawed or is this just your own conjecture? I'm more than happy to criticize a faulty study, but I'm going to need something to go on that isn't a an attempt at guilt by association.

well, thats better than sitting around doing nothing at all. I suppose whats important is what the person does with the chemical effect of the marijuana.

I have a friend who smokes and then gets hyper and cleans house. Different reactions for different people I guess. However, he has a pretty ill philosophy, so maybe he is depressed.

Uh, not sure what your referring to here but the statistics show that those going to prison are primarily for distribution convictions. Only a minority are for possession - most get sent to rehab or community service instead.

Depends on whether or not your family was killed in an automobile accident like happened in my neck of the woods a couple of months ago. Four people of five died and the person who committed the crime was high on marijuana at the time driving nearly twice the speed limit the wrong way down the road. And marijuana use in my state is still illegal. Colorado - one of the first to legalize marijuana for recreational use - has documented an uptick in impaired driving since legalization.

It might be one thing if these people were constraining their use to their private lives, but they aren't. And because marijuana messes with peoples' abilities to interpret reality and make good choices, I think its pretty ridiculous to expect that they control themselves while using. Drunk people are bad enough but at least alcohol wears off after a night's sleep. Marijuana can stay in the system for a month and continue to cause flashbacks.

Prisons are to give people a chance to change their lives so that they can be rehabilitated back into society. They are sent there because they are adjudicated to be dangerous to the law-abiding community.

Yep. And it works so well with cigarettes that it remains the #1 preventable cause of death in the United States (heart disease, lung cancer, etc.). And you don't think we pay for those costs? The only reason cigarettes remain legal is because of the government's desire for tax revenues - which is one of the primary things they cite when they legalize it.

Actually, I think Iatragenic deaths (caused by doctors, medical procedures, drugs) exceeds 200,000/yr, and that was the Leading All Cause Mortality. But I am certain Smoking, and Excessive Eating (T2D and it's related complications are up there as well)

These cannabis studies and most so-called "Scientific studies" are not grounded in reality.
They are sold to the masses as fact when they are only conjecture. All conclude in a correlation and not a causal relationship..

Additionally studies often begin with a false assumption and leave out other factors to :"prove" that false assumption.

Which is why I post this. The dangers of marijuana use have been ignored by many who seek its legalization. It is not only about educating individuals, but in contradicting the opinions that psychotropic drugs should be allowed for recreational use. As more studies arise, we keep finding not that these drugs are less harmful than we thought, but in fact more.

Your headline is inaccurate. The study concludes that daily high potency marijuana use is linked to increased probability of diagnosis of psychosis. “Leads to” is an unfair representation of the study.

Let people choose. Educate all. People have made the sovereign choice to not smoke cigarettes more and more in the last 50 years. Let them reach the same sovereign choice with other substances. I do not support any restriction of personal freedom - whether that means if you do not want to not wear your seatbelt when you drive, or shoot crack cocaine into your toes. It’s all the same to me.

IMHO using weed just lets you pass time and get nothing productive done. Its for people who dont really want to be alive, but just get through life.

Weed induced fog all the time.

I used it regularly as a youth and it made me paranoid and self conscious. When I quit it took a while for me to rearrange my brain back to how I like it plus some. ;)

What else is more desirable than weed-induced fog before voting? The perfect setup for the left.
