Finally Some Sense

If I were a teacher, this is how I would prefer to resolve the issue. Simple. Perhaps some training, and end of issue, not escalation.

The problem is, students might actually get interested in and become educated bout firearms, and then the veil of ignorance purveyed for decades will be jeopardized.

There are several restrictions I wuld place on teachers being armed.
    1. Trained and Certified by either the military or the police.
    2. Extensive background check including Social Media posts.
    3. Annual refresher training.
    4. One person only trigger lock (the technology is there. This is a special case for this restriction.)

I'm sure there are others that could/should be placed on this process but this is a start.

      Something like that is good.
Training is certainly the right idea. Not sure I’d limit training to military and police. NRA could be a great source too.
Background checks good idea too. I think I’d pick another appropriate certification and piggyback, rather than inventing a new check, but I do like the social media connection!
Don’t know about the one person lock. I see the value for day to day, but what if that person is shot, because they know that is the only threat? Seems like another method might be better.

Saying "arming of classroom teachers" makes it sound like some radical idea. You could do that with other things. Arming of...
    - physicians
    - lab technicians
    - fast food workers
    - roofing contractors
    - title insurance specialists
It's really just allowing citizens to keep and carry weapons for protection. When I held a concealed carry permit in the state of FL 20 years ago, FL law did not allow you to show your gun, presumably because it could be seen as a threat. People carried in hidden hostlers, holsters that looked like a small tool case, or a fanny pack. The class I took to get the permit discouraged people from going into dangerous situations where they thought there was a decent chance you'd need a gun. It encourage you to carry a second less-lethal option a baton or mace, esp for people who are older are not able to fight or flee, so that the gun isn't your only option in an emergency. A gun your carry for protection is supposed to be like a CO detector or fire extinguisher that you'll probably never come close to needing but you'll be glad it's there if you need it.
