Did said teacher prevent other students from choosing their role model? Did she set limits or say 'no politicians'? Did she tell the students to choose scientists perhaps? Did she define 'hero'?

As much as I cannot imagine President Trump as a hero, I would admire a student who takes on building that case.

When my wife was a pre-law student, she worked for a large tobacco company. One of her jobs was to read mail sent to government regulators. She got a batch of letters for grade-school students saying please ban tobacco to save our lives. One of the letters said our teacher had us write letters about regulating tobacco, but I'm for leaving tobacco alone. The letter explained his reasons. My wife still remembers it 20 years later. That kid is likely a good lawyer today.
