One suggestion in the comment section.

Fire water shelter food. Stores candles instead of batteries. Store hemp hearts instead of rice. Buy Tallow. Learn ketogenic diet.....it will save your life. No craving high energy diet. Store powdered greens and powdered fruits and protein drinks. Air rifle over powder. Buy snares and traps. Crossbow. Learn your area. Ferro rod over lighters. Rain coats and windbreakers will save your life....wind is another killer. Etc etc etc. Store seeds....buy hand tools

I would add, find your shelter now and store these things there but always have a "get out bag" with or near you at all times possible.

Saw that too and that advice is excellent .In fact a good part of that list is a good winter survival kit for the car in Minnesota.

I think my daughter said it is all veggies? One of my adopted sons is on this Keto diet. Now he is reasonably intelligent, has a very dangerous job, and I am not happy about fad diets. I didn't say a word, but I am worrying a lot.

Well, under the worse conditions, life or death conditions...it's not a bad choice but I need meat too, it's a medicine for me...guess I'll have to learn to hunt.

But in this scenario there may not be any animals left.

It is a high fat diet . Ketotosis is converting fat to energy, I think. It is pretty much my diet . Red meat, fish Salmon , sardines any oily fish I love smoked lake trout.
Chicken, veggies, coconut oil ,olive oil, avocados.
          Cheese , Greek yogurt.
Mostly missing bread , rolls, crackers and sweets.

Hey, I just went to the store and bought Salmon and Shrimp. Fresh wild caught in the Atlantic. I consider fish part of the food group. But I do like my daughter's Lasagna and Stuffed Bell Peppers. I think steak is hard to digest, but I adore Nolan Ryan's 97% lean 3% fat ground sirloin beef! No antibiotics!

I'd actually recommend what some affectionately refer to as a "bug-out bag" and what others refer to as a 72-hour survival kit for every member of your family - as well as any pets. You can see plenty of examples with a quick search, but the basics are food and 1 gallon of water per person per day, a change of clothes, some cash, light, sleeping bags, and a wind-up radio for basic information. I have these in my home in backpacks (except the water) so all we have to do is grab them and run out the door. For my kids, their bags also include small games or toys, some comfort snacks and candies, and the cheap LED flashlights you can get at any dollar store (I have several good rechargeable headlamps in mine as well as a Ham radio and some other items).

That's a starter kit and EVERYONE should have them. They're protection against any random weather event, power outage, or even wildfires, but you have to put them together ahead of time.

For more long-term shelter-in-place-type survival, there are plenty of ideas and you should research what works best for your area. Unless you're in a big city. Those are deathtraps.

I'd add a hatchet and some tarps or a tent.

Driving, I can get to high ground pretty fast but who know how high a ground is needed, we really don't know how bad things will get. I do know we will have to move away from the ocean and go inland but I can't convince my wife of that.
