Should The Government Do This?

Schiff is squeezing Amazon, etc. to remove the movie Vaxxed. Is that ok with my fellow Objectivists? Do you think this leftist finally decided to start saving lives and keeping children safe for a change? Do you trust the government with this move? I'm curious.

This is the same movie Robert DeNiro banned from his festival in the midnight hour, only to say in an interview that this movie should be seen.

Last question...have you seen this movie? Or, are you relying on the reviews of others? This is an important question. I know some things about the making of this movie. Interesting story. But...you'll never hear it.

    I have watched the movie.
Key point in the movie. The "Research" to disprove the link between the vaccine and the autism was the DATE of the vaccine, and the DATE of the DOCTORS Diagnosis that it was autism. (NOT the onset of symptoms). Even when video was available to show the changes were immediate.

As the parent of a child who had an adverse reaction to her 1yr vaccines... And suffered for MANY YEARS after that... I'd like to point out the obvious:
    1) Vaccines are NOT Risk Free
    2) Being Vaccinated is NO GUARANTEE. My daughter got the Chicken Pox from a kid who was vaccinated for it, but got it anyways
    3) Being Vaccinated does NOT mean you cannot CARRY or SPREAD the disease
    4) Herd Immunity has a cost?

if 8 children died per year without vaccines. And 5,000 are pemanently disabled WITH the vaccines... Who is doing the Risk Reward here?

If you doubt that vaccines can and do harm us, then please review the $$$ settlements from the vaccine courts.

I am NOT against vaccines. I am against the common ignorance about them being "perfect" and everyone turning a blind eye to damages.

Any movie worth censoring might be worth watching!

    They should not.

The Government should not pressure a person or company to limit First Amendment rights. In doing so, they indirectly violate the First Amendment. This is quite obvious.

Not getting vaccinations is irresponsible, ignorant and endangers the public. However, the government should NEVER police “right speak”. If the legal basis is “yelling fire in a crowded theater”, the target of the government is the one yelling “fire”, not the theater.

Squeezing is not the correct word for this. If Nunes or some other Republican chairman was "squeezing" the left would be yelling "Censorship" to the high Heavens and screaming for their head on a platter. Schiff is a political con artist of the first order and will stop at nothing to get his desired ends in any matter, not just the removal of trump et al.
Of course this whole Democrate game is being played out because the idiot Republicans didn't field straon candidates for the 45 seats being vacated by retiring members of the house. and let's not forget the somewhat odd elections rules in play in the Free State of California.

My late father said he wondered if all of the medical "miracles" were such a good thing. When I asked him why, he said that evolution had been a matter of survival of the fittest, until we became able to interfere in the natural war between humans and disease, and that now he had the feeling society was deteriorating, because, as he said, "The culls are breeding." He wasn't anti-vaccine, but felt he had to make the observation that maybe we weren't doing humanity a favor by saving the lives of many who preserved weaknesses in our makeup.

Fortunately, we may be arriving at a solution to resolve everyone's fears: genetic engineering. The more knowledge we gain about what makes us vulnerable to numerous disorders, the more probable we will find a way to give anyone a long, robust life, possibly without the need for vaccines. I say that because I seem to have a natural universal resistance to disease, and have tried to get various medical researchers to investigate why. I think I've been ahead of the game.

Like you, I have a highly active immune system, rarely getting sick and recovering quickly when I do. I attribute it, at least partially, to having been exposed to the same diseases we no try to prevent, exercising the immune system and allowing it to develop as intended.

And like your father, I think that over-riding natural selection, both on physical and mental issues, has done mankind no good. Stupidity used to be, at a minimum, painful to those so afflicted, forcing them to learn or die.Now it's a mere inconvenience as we (society) save them from themselves and allow them to pass on their genes and their "wisdom" gained from surviving what should have disabled or killed them.

On the matter if genetic engineering, I'm a bit more leery. I'm reminded of the line from "Jurassic Park", "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should". We can't know what the outcomes would be, and the law of unintended consequences can bite anyone in the butt.

Shiiff has a mind and a face that would be compatible with a black military uniform with red stars on it.
Of course, don't forget the spit-shined tall black boots and a black swagger stick with red tassels flopping off both ends.
Also sporting a red star or more just above the bill, his military hat would be styled after an old-fashioned stovepipe configuration to assist with containing excess hot air.

Want to follow up...have you seen the movie?

Here is something I have learned...if the government is banning a book, a movie, a story...you want to check it out. Even if you don't agree with it. It reminds me of a book my dad ordered when I was a kid. All that was delivered by the mail man was a box with crumpled newspaper inside. No book. Dad called the publisher. "Oh yeah. The postmaster is under orders to remove the book and not deliver it. We'll disguise it and resend." Dad still has that book. It's a scary read...

    Have you seen this movie?...

When an influential Dem asks Amazon to do something, you bet there is an ulterior motive behind it.

"Verge" is a left-center publication. The fact that they quote Schiff (as the influential Democrat) means only one thing: Schiff is worried about somebody's interest being hurt.

“Every online platform, including Amazon, must act responsibly and ensure that they do not contribute to this growing public-health catastrophe,” Schiff wrote.

Schiff should start by being responsible and not the partisan hack he is.

Want to bet that vaccine-making companies are lobbying him?

There isn't any convincing evidence either for or against some of the side effects excessive vaccination may cause.

So for Schiff to come out swinging now smells to high heavens. And not to miss a beat, he is conveniently baking the surfacing of epidemics into lack of vaccination, instead of the real cause of the influx of immigrants who may be bringing in diseases that have long been eradicated and now back again.

Isn't this anti-Amazon stand has to do with Amazon canceling its HQ in NY? Just to balance the outrage surrounding the darling Cortez's grenade against Amazon?

I did not see the film. But I have seen/read evidence of the reasons over-vaccination may be harmful for children.

If the information were in the "pharmacy" section of Amazon and pharmacies are regulated, the gov't should remove unscientific treatments and recommendations. The reason is people find homeopathic treatments and anti-vax info in the pharmacy and wrongly think it's evidence-based.

I would like to get away from the gov't regulating things and have private research groups endorse or condemn treatments. This means pharmacies would have real meds next to addictive meds like heroin next to patent medicines. This is how it was when the country was founded. It was up to citizens to be responsible adults .

"people find homeopathic treatments and anti-vax info in the pharmacy and wrongly think it's evidence-based."

Some homeopathic medication are more effective than prescription drugs. There may be times when you get tired of the drugs your doctor prescribes because of the debilitating side effects.

The medical profession is no longer what it used to be in the past. It used to be that you trusted your family physician with your life, who knew every member of the family and was able to diagnose symptoms when he saw them.

In these days you are lucky if your doctor hits upon the cause of your illness, after ordering umpteen lab tests.

As long as this is the status quo, people will try to remedy their problems themselves. I don't blame them for going after homeopathic cure.

If homeopathic is defined as taking a drug that has the opposite effect and then diluting repeatedly until the drug is gone, I think homeopathy is absurd. When the word is used (wrongly used by my definition) to mean treatments thought of as natural supplements, e.g. zinc for a bad cold or kava kava for insomnia, I don't have problem with them if they're evidence-based. The thing about diluting something until it's gone, e.g. starting with a stimulant and washing it away as a treatment for insomnia, is absurd. You could take 100 doses, and it doesn't matter. It's just taking nothing.

I have seen this with my grandparents, where the left hand of the medical treatment plan doesn't know what the right hand is doing. You really need to stay on top of it.

Note: I did not vote down any of your posts.
