Social control cards for an uncontrolled Government

CARACAS, Venezuela—In April 2008, former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez dispatched Justice Ministry officials to visit counterparts in the Chinese technology hub of Shenzhen. Their mission, according to a member of the Venezuela delegation, was to learn the workings of China’s national identity card program.
“What we saw in China changed everything,” said the member of the Venezuelan delegation, technical advisor Anthony Daquin. His initial amazement, he said, gradually turned to fear that such a system could lead to abuses of privacy by Venezuela’s government. “They were looking to have citizen control.”

The following year, when he raised concerns with Venezuelan officials, Daquin told Reuters, he was detained, beaten and extorted by intelligence agents. They knocked several teeth out with a handgun and accused him of treasonous behavior, Daquin said, prompting him to flee the country.

Government spokespeople had no comment on Daquin’s account.

The project languished.
But 10 years after the Shenzhen trip, Venezuela is rolling out a new, smart-card ID known as the “carnet de la patria,” or “fatherland card.” The ID transmits data about cardholders to computer servers. The card is increasingly linked by the government to subsidized food, health and other social programs most Venezuelans rely on to survive.

And ZTE, whose role in the fatherland project is detailed here for the first time, is at the heart of the program.

As part of a $70 million government effort to bolster “national security,” Venezuela last year hired ZTE to build a fatherland database and create a mobile payment system for use with the card, according to contracts reviewed by Reuters.

What kind of computers could we connect to each other on, other than the Internet? Have you some other system? (in my case, I don't have one of those machines, I have to come to the library).

I just wish he understood how to present himself better. He emotes a lightning rod, but I wonder if he can withstand the repeated strikes.

The R’s see blood in the water, and view Trump as eroding their part of the deep state. They will let him fail naw and seek another RINO for the next term.

I say that because of all the pent up hatred of trump from the dems and the apathy on the right to support him when he needs them. Plus the fact the dems have learned how to manipulate around Trump's appeal from the 2016 election. And also, I can tell they are going to rally around O'Rourke for 2020. They call him the modern day Kennedy, and funded 80 million for that trial balloon in texas against Cruz. He almost won there

Think about 23 and Me and what the statists health czars could do with that.
Anne Wojcicki launched 23andMe in 2006 . In 2013 she separated from the father of her children, now ex-husband Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google (now a subsidiary of the parent company, Alphabet). Google protects our data doesn’t it .(Sarcasm)

Rather than the 'Fatherland Card' here I suspect it will be the ACA card, just to ensure those who deserve medical care can get it. It is the best way to sell it to the general public.
The ability for the government to control its people to this degree is a temptation that the governors will quickly give in to.

One is beholden to the repair shop to fix most all issues that give you the "check engine" light. And there are so many tubes, valves, and operators all over the cars that will give that light. And when you get the light, it wont pass a smog check so you HAVE to fix it.

Exactly!...I have spent extra money on the appliances that have shit the bed since 97 and replaced them with simple stupid...it cost more but at least they will last and be repaired easily.

My wife wants me to replace my Ranger, [220K miles] and I say, for what! at least I can fix the Ranger and I own it.
I'm looking for Older cars, not newer.

I have started to rebel from increased appliance complexity. That also means more repairs and breakdowns. Give me a mechanical light switch, and a reliable car that you can actually easily fix when it stops. My little Kia Soul is so computerized that if it just stops, I will be stranded. Hopefully thats NOT in a bad area. My old 1950 Plymouth was pretty easy to get going again, at least to a safe place.

It is faster than 4G, more bandwith which can handle more information and can be beamed from a satellite, I think...
China and the real time capabilities is a concern, hacking made easier?, everything electrical having two way 5G capabilities...A Big concern!

Why the hell do you need every appliance to have this capability?...dumb you down, take away responsibility? gain a digital nanny to see to all your needs and tattle on your every move...no thanks!

I guess I missed why 5G is so good. I thought it was just faster than 4G, but maybe there are other characteristics that are important. The harmful to human health is interesting. Is it that it uses some different frequency?
