    The best way to be watchful is to replace gmail. Don't trust my email to google's prying eyes.

      I read- Not only do they read the sender and recipients name, but the contents. Nothing read is deleted. They claim that data is not traceable to individuals. (!)

      Not a bad suggestion. We do backup all email with Thunderbird.

      Interesting how convenience and ease insinuate them into one's life.

        I rent a server for my email but it does require some technical setup there. Depends on your level of tech knowledge and what you use the net for. I have several websites and multiple domain names (e.g., http://galtsgulch.com) and set up email like I do. (I use a2hosting in Ann Arbor MI.) It's not particularly difficult but it does take some learning if you have never done it and I suspect it's not as easy for someone who is not web savvy. For example, my business partner is a genius with electronic circuits but shies away from any web page set up tasks. (He uses gmail;^)

    Even though I kept telling google’s gmail that Gulch emails are not spam, I kept finding more Gulch emails in my spam folder. Finally had to create a custom filter telling google’s gmail that if it sees a Gulch email, DO NOT MARK IT SPAM!

    All my “Gulch Digest”emails were being put into spam by Google. I had to click something labeled, “Not Spam Report.”

      Yep, it was easy enough to fix. Plus I set a "never send to Spam" filter for those. But before all that happened, I had to figure out 1) THAT something happened to disappear my notices and 2) which "something" did actually happen. (Additional possibly but not necessarily relevant context: I had a massive computer failure about the time that these notices disappeared on my main computer. It's taken a couple weeks to get my computer in all its glory back again, and in the meantime I've been using my laptop. NONE of that should have mattered....but something did.)

      Anyway, now it's all fixed. Until the next time :-)

        Right. Some business decides to abruptly change some rule and it is up to the effected customers to figure out why something is wrong now. This type of tactic is being used as a weapon.

    Adding...I was beginning to feel guilty for getting so much out of the Gulch and paying nothing.
