Free speech haters get Sargon of Akkad kicked off Patreon

The mob strikes again! They cut off his monthly income from many of his donators. But it is worse than that.

    I don't agree with Sargon's action (use of racial slurs), although I could understand someone doing so in a moment of anger.
    However, if what Sargon says is true, it appears that Patreon is not following its own terms of service rules.
    If Patreon's site is a commercial site and privately owned then Patreon can set their own rules within the site. Posters who use the site must comply with the rules. If someone violates the rules they should expect Patreon to enforce the rules. They should also expect Patreon to limit their actions to the rules as stated.
    From the evidence that appears in the video it appears that Patreon has acted outside and against their own rules. It appears that Patreon has allowed their employees' bias (as influenced by people who hate Sargon and want to silence him) to affect their action (removing Sargon's site from Patreon.) In a free market other users of the site should respond to this infraction and punish Patreon by no longer using the site.
    This assumes that Sargon has presented a complete and fair view of the facts in his video.
    I see this posting in the Gulch as part of the process of exposing Patreon's actions and encouraging others to act.
    I do not follow Sargon's postings or use Patreon's site.

    Sorry guys, but it's things like this that quickly demonstrate who has a solid grasp of the basics and who does not.
    Patreon kicking Sargon off their platform IS free speech, among many other individual rights, and their right to do so must be protected.
    We can disagree with it, but we cannot call them "free speech haters" for exercising their free speech.
    Remember, only the government can violate your right to free speech. Individuals or businesses cannot do so.
    I expect this ignorance from Sargon who is a completely disintegrated thinker and a collectivist, but Objectivists should know better.

      I’m guessing you did not watch the video. The free speech haters are the mob Sargon of Akkad talks about. The mob creates a hit list and sends all their collective dislikes to Patreon. Patreon has rules. Patreon ignores their own rules and kicks him off. Watch the video.

        Nothing that you've described qualifies as "free speech haters".

        Patreon kicking Sargon off Patreon, even for the terrible reasons given here, is NOT a free speech issue. Or rather it IS a free speech issue, in that Patreon is exercising their free speech, among other individual rights, by kicking him off.

        Only the government can affect your free speech.

          I still disagree. It is a free speech issue. You ignored my main point where the illiberal free speech hating mob activity executed a plan to shut him down. They do not like or agree with what he says so by any means necessary they collectively plot to prevent him from speaking. Patreon was one of their targets to do that. That mob is not the Patreon company, that Sargon of Akkad shows, continues to break it’s own rules, but that is a different serious problem.

          These people (the mob) do not respect the right to express one’s own opinion unless it matches their ideology. They hate that people sometimes can and do offend other people just by talking. I’m not talking about Patreon nor the government here.

    It's Patreons Livingroom, they can throw out whoever they want.
    I agree, they are caving to Mob rule, but it is their call.
    If you want to pop-off and say anything, go over to steem-it, or dTube.

        But, they are allowed to do that as well. Gulch should just build a Patreon site of its own and have no link to email the complaint department.
        My guess is, many sites like this are afraid of getting sued over hurt FeFe's - so, it's easier to shut it down. Put it on the blockchain, and you can't shut it down.

    In the video Sargon of Akkad also shows that some Silicon Valley CEOs are colluding but not for money, but for the collecrtive power to control people, the way they speak, and the way they think.

      For many independent content makers, Patreon is the main way people can donate periodically to a site. Lose that and you can lose your main income stream. You can think of a content provider losing Patreon similar to a business losing MasterCard.

        Over the years, I have donated to content vendors via PayPal. From the main PayPal login, I can donate from my PayPal account (which I also use as a collection system for my products and content), or select my checking account or my credit card. Maybe I am missing something -- I have not used Patreon as a means to pay anyone as of yet. Perhaps it is more flexible than PayPal.

          The advantage/disadvantage of Patreon is that it is a subscription model. The advantage to content creators is that they can "count" on $X coming in each month and they are notified of people unsubscribing.

          The advantage to subscribers is that they don't have to remember to go to Paypal to take care of this. This can also be a DISadvantage if you would prefer not donating every month. Double-edged sword, but what isn't! I can certainly understand why a person wouldn't want to be "sucked into" this model.

          This is not a small amount of money. People have reported earning upwards of $70k-$80k per month on the Patreon platform, so they wield a LOT of clout.

          I have exactly one person I support on Patreon, and I'm unlikely to add to that. In my case it's not to get "subscriber" benefits, but to encourage him to do more of what he's doing. He's quite uncontroversial, thank goodness, so he's probably not going to lose his account any time soon.

            With so much revenue flowing through this particular portal, it see ample opportunity for a competitor to join the fray and offer a new service. I am a subscriber to the Gulch ($3.95 / month) ... I recall setting that up when I joined. Wait ... I can see that I set this up as an Auto Payment through PayPal. Here is the content from my most recent PayPal service invoice (below). Apparently, I set this auto-payment up back in August 2013.

            Amount: $3.95 USD

          I use Patreon to donate to a number of content sites I support. If Patreon continues to ignore reasonable requests from Sargon of Akkad, I will assume they have gone illiberal crazy and change my donation method.

            I removed the managing of my monthly $$$ donations from Patreon. They will receive no commissions from me. I did not donate to Sargon of Akkad, but I can not support what they did, how they did it or their illiberal biased collective continuing to do so.

            I cannot do much about the mobs of free-speech haters that hide in their safe spaces.
