a beautiful lady in her 60's? You mean that's possible? I'm in my 60's, but have no such illusions. (However, I was never beautiful, even in my teens). The way things are now, it might be better just to call the State Troopers, rather than risk some sort of robbery or something by stopping. But just doing nothing--no!

Well, unfortunately my friend couldn't get out of her car. I think maybe panic. I, however, carry a hammer in my car! The fumes burned her throat badly and she is barely able to talk. Her doctor assures her she will recover without damage.

This gets better. Firestone had earlier in the week told her that her car was 'fine'. She believed them. Guess who her insurance company adjuster had her car delivered to? You got it. The same Firestone Co. She has hired an attorney.

I've not come across this, but I did once pick up a young women, holding a baby and the hand of a second small child. The day was exceedingly hot and they looked like they could use the ride. In fact, this was the one and ONLY time I picked up a hitchhiker with my wife and own children in our car (my wife was understanding).

Windows down?? flagging for help?? honking horn? If windows down get out that way? Bust out window--I know it is a Lexus but that is what insurance is for? I think that people aren't bad it is just that they do not care to trust. Too many setups in today's world!!!!

As a questionably "beautiful" lady in her 60's (at least for another several months till my next birthday), who drives a Lexus....I'll tell you that I go to a LOT of trouble not to allow this to happen to me.

(Most) people are good, but I am never willing to allow others that much ability to influence my life. Since we have moved 5 hours away from "home" in the past 3 years, I've had time to think about this. My first level of defense is my husband, who considers it unthinkable for me to have to travel alone. But that cannot last forever, as we all have an inevitable end.

So, I make sure I'm armed. I make sure the vehicle is in tip-top running condition. My phone is charged and operational, though some of the places where I drive have little to no cell phone signal. I check the weather carefully for several days in advance. I practice a lot of "what-if" scenarios. And since most of my highway driving is of necessity on somewhat less-well-maintained roads, I keep a keen eye out for places to stop.

So, if you see me sitting on the side of the road with blinkers on, I'd be happy for you to make note of my license plate number and call the authorities. If they are needed: thank you. If they are not needed, I can explain that to them as well as to anyone else, and I appreciate your concern. One only needs to think of names like Ted Bundy, one of the most attractive and innocent-looking serial killers to have ever lived, to be wary of anyone trying to be "helpful" in a roadside situation.

    Great question, BTW!

    It was that "beautiful woman in her 60s" bit that got old dino on a roll.;
I agree with other posts here that I could be braking to fall into a trap.
My having a pistol in my pocket won't help if I already have a gun aimed at my face--or worse. .

As a gal, I would say, be cautious. If she is driving a Lexus, he is likely a MeToo babe who won't hesitate to blame you for something. A Mustang or Cdmaro gal would be looking at the engine, and grateful for assistance.

If I see a lady I stop to help. Her age and looks are irrelevant. If I see a man he's on his own unless he's actively waving for help.

Does not matter what she looks like.

20 years ago I would have stopped to help anyone.

Today you have risks that did not exist. If you stop and are alone, you risk a she said he said kind of incident. Not worth stopping.

I would still stop if I have my wife with me, but without a witness I would do nothing.

Interesting. I guess thats a biological difference between women and men ! Probably has something to do with genes that do the connections beetween emotions and the brain more powerful in women.
You guessed right- I am a man and would not scream if alone in a stranded car. I would be too busy trying to figure out how I got stranded and what to do about it. But, thats my genes...

Well, I can tell you aren't a woman! We scream when we are alone in the house. Relieves frustration but it does scare the dogs.

That would qualify as her being in distress. I would still be very careful in this day and age. There isnt a lot of reason to be screaming and pounding on windows in a car stopped on the side of the road with no one else in it.

Well, how about she was screaming and banging on the windows because she couldn't lower the windows or open the doors?

Probably do nothing. Could be a trap of some sort. If she didn’t look in some sort of immediate distress my help would not be necessary since some liberal bleeding heart would probably stop

A beautiful women, with a Lexus on the side of the road, flashing me?
I'm probably driving into a telephone pole.

If the person is out of the vehicle, standing next to it, with the hood open (preferably), then that is a clear indication that the driver needs help. I would stop and ask. If I don't see the driver, or the driver is inside (normal weather), I would assume that either help has already been called, or the reason for stopping is something else and my involvement is not needed. The circumstance with your friend is unusual (not being able to open any of the doors; window?). Also, it would be damn near impossible to determine the person's age and level of attractiveness while she was sitting in the stopped car and I was driving at interstate speeds. At best, one can post-process the mental picture about 30 seconds later, which means that they are half-mile past her.

Seriously, I'd pull over and call the police and wait for them to arrive. I would not approach the car. I'd do the same for an old man.

Attractiveness would be irrelevant, stop and help if possible, if driving the bus call for aid. Type of care wouldn't matter and it wouldn't matter if it was a guy.

When I was a kid we used to stop for anyone on the side of the road. I helped push many cars out of the ditch. But now everyone has a cell phone. I think if you stop, you'll scare them.

That happens here all the time out in the country with absolutely zero cell service and I doubt those On Star gadgets work here either. I always stop on these rural roads and with window down ask if they need help. Depends if I am armed and a few other conditions before I get out to help.
