Something to think about, to acknowledge, something to appreciate while witless men and women fight to keep their unearned power.
Why Chesterton Would Classify Many Modern Individuals as ‘Half-Witted’
(G.K. Chesterton, in full Gilbert Keith Chesterton, (born May 29, 1874, London, England—died June 14, 1936, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire), English critic and author of verse, essays, novels, and short stories, known also for his exuberant personality and rotund figure.)
"a birthday is an occasion for reminding ourselves – or “defiantly affirming” – that it is a good thing to be alive. Secondly, the birthday boy or girl,[man or women] is reminded that they are celebrating something they played no role in bringing about. This reminder is doubly important in today’s post agrarian world when children are an economic cost, or perhaps even burden, rather than an economic necessity or bonus."
" But modern thinkers have no sense of receiving things from the “real world,” including receiving things from the “past,” or from one’s “parents,” or from the “patriotic tradition,” or from the “moral philosophy of mankind.”
Not to mention, The Cosmos, Existence itself, which affords the likely hood, the possibility,.. of life,.. much less Conscious life.
We here at the Gulch are aware of our inheritance of the philosophy of Rand, the thoughts and inventions prior to our existence and those, including ourselves, that take these thoughts, inventions and philosophies to the next level.
But what about our own existence, the existence we played no part in, do we appreciate it? Do we take time to look around in wonder of all we inherited.
It doesn't have to be mystical, we need not rituals to remind us, just look around and remember, we played no part in our own existence only in our perpetuation of it, goodly or badly.
This might enable us to take a step back when we'd like to reboot the brains of others, when the nonsense gets too thick and humble ourselves then plan our steps forward.

Yesterday I saw actors acting witless in The Big Short, one of three movies you recommended, including Margin Call, both these flicks about the economic collapse of 2008.
I had to call Netflix and report The Big Short as a no show in my mail. I was told they'd send another DVD plus an extra apology flick off the top of my queue.
Four DVDs arrived on the same day. Two envelopes contained The Big Short.
That means the replacement and the previously sent long lost one in the mail showed up on the same day.
That event in itself struck me as a witnessing of someone's witlessness.
Flake's latest flake also.
Twist your head a bit?...it's tough to get your mind around that...and that's the point.
First, I make dimwits restate things in their own words, to see how far gone they are with talking point thinking given to them. If they can't even do that, I walk away. If they are open to discussion, I am glad to do that if thye know anything. Too often I mutter as I ignore them and walk away, "What the hell are they thinking?", Upon which my husband says, "They don't think."
A rhetorical question to any rationalist or non-absolutist out there: Are you living your life, or is someone or something living it for you?
The "sense" Ayn Rand would have had of this, was to see it for the nonsense it is. She had no time for mysticism, and no room in her mind for doubt.
Oh, and it's only a short step from Chesterton's fallacy to John Rawls'. You can keep such "inheritances" as these for your own self (I choose to go with Galt).
