Are You Getting Out, Getting Along or Just Giving Up?

I would like here to encourage fellow Lords & Ladies of Liberty to post Songs of Independence.

Not everyone's musical tastes are the same (a fact that has always confused me), so it would be great if you would, in addition to any comments you care to make, include the lyrics you can cut and paste from a dozen websites (I hate "bouncing around" more than necessary).

If you want to go the additional mile, you can bracket better lyrics of your own (but do give attribution and include copyright, as I've done below.

This should be fun. I'll quote a paragraph on the virtue to get us started:

"Independence is the recognition of the fact that yours is the responsibility of judgement and nothing can help you escape it -- that no substitute can do your thinking, as no pinch-hitter can live your life -- that the vilest form of self-abasement and self-destruction is the subordination of your mind to the mind of another, the acceptance of an authority over your brain, the acceptance of his assertions as facts, his say so as truth, his edicts as middle-man between your consciousness and your existence." -Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, p. 1019

Happy Hunting my Pretties!

Rival Sons - Keep On Swinging Lyrics
    Artist: Rival Sons

One day my prayers are gonna be answered
Soo long I been hungry for something else
    Where there's a will n there's a way ... cause
The lord helps those who help themselves

Hey, hey I keep my head down but I keep on swingin
Hey I keep my head down but I keep on swingin
Hey I keep my head down but I keep on swingin
Hey I keep my head down but I keep on swingin

Right now somebody's counting my money
So much they can't see the top of the stack
    There's a will there's away
Moneys gonna find my hand one day and
When it does I ain't looking back

Hey, hey I keep my head down but I keep on swingin
Hey I keep my head down but I keep on swingin
Hey I keep my head down but I keep on swingin
Hey I keep my head down but I keep on swingin

      To the Lyrics I say:

Yours is the will and only yours the way forward. Like Roark or Galt, the pride of an independent mind must be earned (no fate but what we make).

It's one thing to know (or have faith in) the path, but measurably and profoundly better to walk the path paved with the gold of liberty and reason united as one. And if, to quote Rush, you "hold your head above the crowd [then] it won't drag you down."

And there can be no room for doubt: we have no time for mysticism.

Thank you very much Mr. Ashinoff for these inspiring & provocative lyrics (now I'll listen to it and speak on the music).

      B^)

To me its a fight song of stubborn determination and desire work hard and relentlessly to achieve.

As an individual I reserve the right, and live in an nation that affords me the ability to develop my own path in life. No philosophy is seen by me to be completely sound but all, at least those I've read a bit about, do offer something admirable and worth preserving and perhaps incorporating. I do not discount that there is more to his life than that which is sensory. I see no conflict in much of Objectivism, my Conservatism, and my views toward an afterlife.
In short, and I've said this before, I'm not objectivist enough for my Objectivist friend and not Christian enough for my wife. :)

          AJ,

Most people don't know that had the term "existentialism" not been preempted by advocates of "das nights" (the all-negating "nothing" or "zero") then Ayn Rand would have named her philosophic system "Existentialism" (capital E), rooted as it is in the axiom that "Existence exists -- and only existence exists."

So there is a clear and present "divide" that manifests itself from the decision people make to think or not to think, wholly embrace the axioms of existence, consciousness and identity in how one lives his own life, by how he uses/misuses his reason, to pursue his values and sustain his own happiness, or not.

In principle such dedication only "negates" the moochers, looters and other pretenders to life or any consequent value (material or spiritual).

I wish you good premises in sorting out the contradictions that undercut your own flourishing. I am prey to several of my own, but have gone whole hog on the Galt Speech and all auxiliary materials (e.g., the plethora of Youtube videos delivering whole courses on such subjects as logic -- such as Harry Binswanger's: https://youtu.be/hhwDQBVYuH8)

But, to paraphrase Roark, "the world is perishing from an orgy of self-sacrificing" and now is not the time to hold hands and sing Kumbaya, my ghost, my zero, my neighbor or "leader."

It's time to take a clear and consistent stand. The deepest challenge to you would, I think, be listening to How to Think About the Universe by Objectivist philosopher Charles Tew. Many actual, would-be, Objectivists have an impossibly hard time wrapping their minds around this, because it is like being Neo trying to free his mind from "The Matrix.": https://youtu.be/IZdo5qbGOiw)

I'll try to rein in my sense of urgency not to unnecessarily intimidate anyone who might have a chance, but I've been "asleep in the world" for a very long time, and I can't wait to burst some bubbles.

[If you like this sort of post thematically, I'll likely go on to the other virtues outlined in Galt's Speech as well.]

          Stay hungry,

          Jae

Why do you keep getting voted down? You piss of ewv too?

Btw, I'm more of Deist than an existentialist.

Because I'm an unapologetic firebrand. eww doesn't like it but has nothing of value to contribute. Pretty soon I'm going to get tired of wasting my time on the wishy-washy, naysayers and ankle biters that live here, but I've paid up for a year and am on the lookout for other potential fire-spotters.

By and large, this site seems to be for people who never understood Ayn Rand or never intended to The vast majority of people today are simply unable to think in principle for lack of a proper education.

I lacked an honest education too, and have been struggling since 1994 to reclaim my own life, control over my own thoughts and decisions by learning to think in principle (politics is only the net effect).

I might add that of the seven "canonical" virtues of my philosophy, these lyrics seem to speak more to the virtue of productiveness.

But they're all integrated, and there's a strong independent spirit in "not looking back."

    Not My Slave
    Oingo Boingo

With sadness in my heart and joy in my mind
I thought about the ghost that we left behind.
With everyone around telling us what to do
With deafening sound whisper "I love you."
The fire in your eyes-- may it never go out.
The sweetness of your tears make it feel like night.
I see no escape from the roles we always play
What do we have to prove on this judgement day

You're missing the whole point-- you're not my little pet
Don't throw away your life-- The games not over yet
I do not own your soul--don't want you in a cage
I only want your heart to find a special place

You're mine now But you're not my sister
You're mine now But you're not my slave
You're mine But you're not my child
You're mine now But you're not my slave
You're mine now But you're not my slave

With sadness in my heart and clounds in my head
I thought about us both and the lives we led.
The pages on a book and pictures on a screen
We shape ourselves like clay from someone else's dream.
One second you are cast just like stones at my feet
But I am not a king please don't worship me.
With everyone around telling us what to do
With deafening sound whisper "I love you."

You're mine But you're not my sister
You're mine now But you're not my slave
You're mine But you're not my child
You're mine now But you're not my slave

You're mine now But you're not my slave
You're mine now But you're not my slave
You're mine now But you're not my slave

    Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)
    Billy Joel

Anthony works in the grocery store
    Savin' his pennies for someday
Mama Leone left a note on the door
She said, Sonny, move out to the country!
But workin' too hard can give you
    A heart attack (ack-ack-ack)

You oughta know by now (oughta know)
Who needs a house out in Hackensack
Is that what you get with your money

And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
    Mama if that's movin' up
    Then I'm movin' out
    I'm movin' out

Sergeant O'Leary is walkin' the beat
At night he becomes a bartender
He works at Mister Cacciatore's down
    On Sullivan Street
    Across from the medical center
And...he's tradin' in his Chevy for a Cadillac

    You oughta know by now
    And if he can't drive
    With a broken back
At least he can polish the fenders

And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
    Mama if that's movin' up
    Then I'm movin' out
    I'm movin' out

You should never argue with a crazy my-my-my-mind (mmm)
    You oughta know by now
You can pay Uncle Sam with the overtime
Is that all you get for your money

And if that's what you have in mind
If that's what you're all about
    Good luck movin' up
    'Cause I'm moving out

    I'm moving out.
    I'm moving out!!

Notice any side-ways reference to Mao and his order to "move on out to the country"?

We revolutionaries belong to the city, and are most alive beneath the neon lights, having a really important conversation with Trinity: looking like Ayn Rand's passport photo (c. 1925)..

My own revolution embraces the proto-noir of Steampunk!

Watch this "classic clip" from the romantic tomorrow-land of yesteryear that never was but should have been (it's a distillation of the best of that era). Watch it and ask yourself why we had to let it go: https://youtu.be/KqRvdm8jHz4 ???

Anyone reading this---I have found and devised a way to fight for tomorrow-land again, to fight for Atlantis here and now, inch by heroic inch, against the empty robotic monsters that symbolize the evil we're fighting, the cry bullies and amoral-evaders.

Undergo the Learning, The Training is the Treatment. Your own psycho-poetic Training should fit you Soul like a glove in place with the Learning,
I am here to empower all would-be lords and ladies of liberty, as I aspire to such myself: don't follow, but walk in step and the fugitive lady liberty will be found and rescued by the dishonest souls who hold her a captive for the ransom that is your life.

Spread the word. The theatrical praxis is ready to go public. I'll be a revolution of one either way, but my professional services are available to all who A.S.K (Atlas Spoke Konspiracy).

!Viva d'revolucion d'Atlas! To life, laughter and happiness, to The Carnival of Life!

And here's the complete movie. See if you're healthy enough to take it seriously despite the "slapstick." I've been physically living in San Diego, but allegorically living in the bed of a spiritually tortured invalid, leading a disoriented existence, lost Ideal, a suicidal-Johnny in penance-bound to my moral suburban preapocalyptic fortress against a post-modern, nihilistic dis-civilization.
