That being said, can we not have an intelligent debate on the education of our children without this kind of angry, emotional rhetoric?

But the tests will be created to support the standards - which will drive the curriculum. Why "waste time" teaching things over/above the standards when all the evaluation will be done based only on the standard? There will be no incentive to teach the "gifted" students more, and it will be all they can do to get the "rocks" up to a minimum level.

Few people on this planet, teachers as well as gov. officials will excede min. job requirements to get their paycheck.

They're called the Common Core standards. There is no such thing as a "Common Core curriculum." The standards are minimum goals. Nothing in the Common Core says you can't go above and beyond the standards it sets.

No, teachers union heads are incapable of, and unwilling to participate in, intelligent debate. They are also incapable of reason.

This set of standards will destroy education. No child left behind was the second level in the destruction of the education system. This is the final blow. Study this subject and you will understand why and it is not all that difficult to understand.

He perfectly exemplifies the type of drone the communists want in both public and charter schools. Remember, with CC, what you know doesn't matter, it's all about how you feel. His over-emo reaction says it all. Would you want your kids to be in his classroom?

There is no need for a common curriculum, unless your intent is to eliminate competition, restrict innovation, and stagnate the society.
Yes, it appears that is the looters plan.

From Charles Hughs Smith's article last week:
Perhaps time learning in a garden should be considered as important as time spent sitting in a classroom.

I met a teacher a few years ago trying to get me to vote for a tax increase his argument went like this: "We already have a contract for our salaries. We're getting paid no matter what. The question is will we have supplies to teach. That's not certain. Our contract is."

I find the whole thing laughable. Unions and politically-motivated group followers are all fired up for no reason. Education is important, but a set of standards won't make or break education in the US.

I don't know if there's a way to have public education without this crap. Once politics gets involved, there's motivation for hyperbolic rhetoric, and Union teachers and Republicans who watch cable news and read blogs all day actually believe the crap.
