We worked a ranch in the Hueco mountains in W. Texas, 52 sections of land. We rode fence and saw many folks that made the walk through some real rough country to get to the main road and try to catch a greyhound out of state. We allowed them to fill water bags from a outdoor pump, then they moved on, one night the dogs went off and we found a couple of them in the house going through the fridge, last time we saw them, they were running for the BP checkpoint on the main road with rounds overhead to let them know the basic hospitality was rescinded. If we found them in the back country, we would give them water, then point them away from the main compound.

Nick, a friend of mine owned a 4800 acre ranch in south Texas. He put out water (in containers), canned foods and a can opener, for any visitors from across the border who overnighted at his creek. Also, I have to add, my family came to this country in the 1600's and settled in Virginia. My gggrandfather got a Mexican land grant in the 1830's and we still own that land. He had to become a Mexican citizen to do that (mere technicality). So my family are Texans for 185 years or nine generations. Texans tend to feel differently than you do.
