One would think this would totally disarm the :Social Democrats" idiocy, but maybe the sheeple do not read such mundane pieces...

Maduro: "No more whining, I want solutions comrades!" This is a Mr. Thompson moment! Now that the food has run out, Venezuela has had its Minnesota grain/train moment.

Note that the things playing out DO follow the pattern Ayn Rand foresaw in her books. The physics of it are undeniable, meaning that it is no longer a "social science" but a real science. It can be proven through experimentation that socialistic policies will result in disaster.

Every time something like this happens, it makes me wonder whether Ayn Rand was a prophet and just knew what was going to happen, or if the proggies took A.S. and are using it as their playbook because they think they are so much better and know so much more than the characters in the book that they can make it work.

Venezuela, an oil rich country, but economically socialist. Its economy is in the crapper and the people are suffering. Gee whiz, who could have seen that coming? And yet, though the evidence is as clear as a 25 cent peep show, they still can't see to include as a remedy a great big hunk of capitalism. Its one thing to be philosophically opposed to an economic system, its quite another to be blinded by cause and effect. So, they think, it cannot be that socialism failed it must be some other reason. It is sabotage is what it is. It is caused by the (you name it) and their scheme to take over the government by starving people. Lets get these scoundrels! __ And, so it goes. You know the rest.We all see the situation clearly, but they don't, or can't allow themselves that everything they have been taught and relied upon as true has now proved to be lies. And they can't admit to themselves that they have been stupid enough to fall for the B.S. of socialism, so they make up hundreds of excuses as to why it failed, none of them true.Bye-bye Venezuela.

One should ask, where did all the money go? I can bet you Maduro and his cronies are NOT poor, nor do they have the Venezuelan currency in their bank accounts...

This is like Mister Thompson of AS admitting that Directive 10-289 was a failure, and signing an order for its immediate revocation.

It would be as if Mister Thompson acceded completely to John Galt's demands:

"Start by abolishing all income taxes."

    "Fire your government employees."

I don't quite see an opportunity here just yet. They're admitting economic failure, but they're still blaming others for their woes (United States economic war? and their own citizens). The problem is they merely admitted the fault and provided no real step forward in progress. Free markets (lessez faires capitalism) allow people to produce, allow poverty to be addressed, allow personal dignity and refill government (very limited) coffers through sensible taxes.

    Gee, ya-think?

Last night, watching catch-up of Blue Bloods on Netflix, a rookie cop snagged an illegal from Venezuela, felt bad for doing her job, and was fired for following the rule book.

So far this season has sucked. It might be time for the network to define the end of the series.

Venezuela is a real study of the rise and fall of socialism. It would be a great tv series. As it gets more desperate. It could show us what desperate steps it takes to stay in power

YES! Better yet a documentary movie.
Show a clip of Chavez and Maduro speech and then show scenes over the next few years of how their desires were actually implemented yet results were horrible.
If I had the money I would sponsor it.

I think it would be more effective in educating people to the evils of socialism. Get that Cortez lady to go down there to live for 6 months !!! Along with Maxine, and Pelosi, and Schumer.

It is true that Atlas Shrugged sets a moral base, but I dont people today live in that world. The fact is that socialism doesnt and in fact cant work to give people what they want. People seem to think today that socialism can make a better world- but it hasnt ever, and cant work. They need to see this, and venezuela is a really good example of this.

"Boomalay boom on the big bass drum,
Where is the money coming from?
It's used in research, children dear,
For ways to increase the tax next year."
    -- Ogden Nash
A certain element of truth, there.
You don't think politician's pockets are lined with lint, do you?

recalling an old movie: "The Mouse That Roared"
Maduro could make a military strike on the US
which would immediately fail and then get money from then US or UN to "reconstruct his vanquished country." Do we still do that?

Democrats do, look at Obama's list of beneficiaries...although the Republicrats like Bush did their share too, billions for Iraq, Afghanistan. First you do rapid urban renewal (bomb the crap out of them), then you fix it, and leave your own country to fall apart. Modern American politics.

What a man; he admits that the socialism instigated by the threat and use of violence has not worked! Now that socialism has proven itself a failure he demands that others need to help him come up with a better socialist plan that is more controlling to get the economy under control; the government needs to own more from the lives of the people and everything will finally get better! No more people starving, not working, this can work! If you eliminate enough people through murder and prisons that kill off the people then the employment percentages will increase because you will have a smaller population base from which to draw workers!

The failures don't matter to them, that would require rational thought. It's only about political superiority justified by moral superiority.

I am a bit more optimistic. I think if you interviewed Venezuelans today MOST would not be so enthusiastic or hopeful about their new "way" of operating. They have seen reality first hand. Reality lived is a powerful teacher.
Bit by bit, the tide can be turned. Such as, "Would you be for letting supermarkets operate without government regulation to allow food to be brought back to the shelves?" I have a feeling there would be a resounding, "YES, please."

Hence, means that this was a way to dictatorship, not through any real concern for the people, and that transfers to our own Democrats as they move to "Socialist Democrat" mode. they just want power, and "free stuff" will call to the sheeple.

Poor Maduro is unaware that there is no such thing as successful communist economic model. He did not learn from Soviet and Eastern European history.
He is repeating it like a sheep.

TANSTAAFL per Robert Heinlein ;-) Understanding that requires thinking, and "Thinking is hard work, which is perhaps why so few engage in it," said Henry Ford.
