I'd think we could get at least the same amount by taxing every word spoken by politicians.

What a crock!! Each person will wind up paying the tax, and only a fraction of that will be returned as dividends And the dividends will only go to those who can prove they are most “in need”

And it got a lot of hate from self-styled economics commentator from the UK because the article labeled his statist heroes as "the usual muckety-mucks. Gotta love it.

Yes, exactly, as it says in the article, The Proof is in the Pandering.

Just another scam as an excuse to raise taxes. I am reminded of the legislator that proposed a poop tax. You'd bring in a sample in a plastic bag once a month and you'd be taxed on it based on weight.(Can I go home now?)

The carbon tax is not populist, at least not here. The majority of Americans think that climate change is a crock, and recognize it's just another scam to line the pockets of an already wealthy elite. The pandering is to the looters and takers, just like "free" education and "free" healthcare.

So we can't burn illegal immigrants as a fuel source? (Cheaper than prison and sending them back, plus ZERO recidivism... Technically a Green Energy source, completely renewable, since we are assured they will always keep coming, even if they have to buy ladders)... :-)

Yes, certainly worthy of a Nobel. Intentions are all that matter, a little like Kant?

    Kind of like,
“It will combine the efficiency of free enterprise with that of a planned economy.”

Part of this (the tax and rebate to people) is like the plan that Australia tried and scrapped as garbage.
I love the article, mshupe! Well written and thanks for posting!

Caution, you are entering tongue-in-cheek country.

    This sounds really good!
More, bigger and better taxes - on carbon for a change.
A Ponzi scheme without an upfront contribution,
the money goes round and round,
the faster it flows the more is created,
showering the populace with well earned wealth.

    It will-
"strengthen our economy, benefit working class Americans, reduce regulations,
    and protect our natural heritage".

The Center for Individualism are such cynics:
" it could give pigs wings, freeze hell, and invent water" and they think
" there must be some payoff somewhere"

But I say the Climate Leadership Council are in line for a Nobel Peace Prize.
