Never Underestimate the Power of a Question, by Robert Gore

MAGA was the Trump acronym; his symbol should have been the question mark. The two are related. The acronym implies America is no longer great, which prompts the obvious question: Why? The source of most of the vitriol directed toward Trump is not so much his answers, which have often been contradicted by his actions. Trump’s transgression is that he dared to question in the first place: immigration policy, foreign military intervention, trade agreements, costs of alliances, corruption, and so on.

"Look at his praise of eminent domain "
He praised asset forfeiture too. But I don't think he means any of it. I think he's a drunk showman mindlessly running his mouth.

I have no evidence at all that he uses any drugs. I've known a few people with his mannerism who turned out to be hardcore users, BUT this is a very small sample size. Plus I cannot judge from his public persona. It's just a suspicion. I would bet some money President Trump is a user of alcohol or drugs but certainly not all my money because I could easily be wrong.

But the mere mention of such an idea as freeing the slaves brought out a horrified response. Too many were too invested in the immorally based system. It took a civil war to break the chains.

I voted for him because he wasn't Hillary Clinton. But I am sometimes embarrassed by his http://behavior.As to "drugs, alcohol, or mental illness", I doubt it. I have known one or two other individuals who were like this. There is a problem with irrationality. I never considered him a paragon of free enterprise. Look at his praise of eminent domain (a thing that should not exist in the United States of America, and should have been abolished generations ago).

True enough. What we need to do is to abolish public education. But the mere mention of such an idea brings out such a horrified response!--Still, if we insist on it long enough, we may get somewhere. (After all, abolition of slavery eventually succeeded).

Unlike Obama, Trump projects an American image that will never bow to dictators..

I think the height of anti-Trump insanity was reached when the CNN talking head grumped his way through the arrival of the Americans freed from North Korea, implying that this was a carefully planned show for the 2018 elections. I got the impression that he was actually suggesting that Trump was in collusion with Kim Jong Un!

There is much weight in the image a country projects. What repulsed me the most about Obama was when he obsequiously bowed to various monarchs. That was completely at odds with a well established principle that the American President represents a free people, and we bow to no potentate.

Driving to get my usual Friday fried catfish dinner ("dinner" Bama speak for "lunch"), me dino heard Rush remark that Trump is giving the left enough rope to hang themselves where Team Mueller's "get Trump" efforts are concerned.
Yesterday it was reported that the top rats of the DOJ or FBI or both had a spy illegally planted within the Candidate Trump campaign.
Rush said that the identity of this mole should be revealed soon.

Trump is turning the status quo in the government on its head. Despite the progressive media reporting many people in the US now see's how corrupt the DC beltway has become. It's now up the citizens to do something about it. Will the Dimms be voted out of office or will the swamp get deeper?

"We are seen as well intended, lacking in sophistication, preferring the risks of individual freedom over the security of collectivism."

We are well-intended because the foundation of our nation is on individual liberties. It is only when people start encroaching on these liberties that we run into problems. The Old World has been antithetical to individual liberty since its founding and they don't like the apple cart being overturned.

Lacking in sophistication is better termed lacking in sophistry. The European Old Guard has existed for centuries and we've seen what they've given the last several centuries - either territorial wars or appeasement that foments even bloodier wars. I think it is to America's great credit that we haven't gone down that path. And then I am reminded of several of our more recent conflicts and realize that America under some regimes has done just what the European Old Guard did.. =(

Risk v reward is what has brought America to the forefront economically so quickly. The focus on free markets has allowed the entrepreneurial spirit its full range - and has brought about unprecedented prosperity as a result. This provides a firm historical foundation for comparison against all other nations and their oppressive governmental structures and regulations.

Asking the right question can lead to the right answer. Any government wants to preserve its right to use violence to get what it wants, which is more control and the right to use violence to plunder its citizens for more power and more money. The rights of the individual to property and life is not its concern. The acquiescence of the public to the fate determined by the slave masters of the governors is.
The race known as blacks demonstrate well what most people want from their government. It is not protection in individual liberties it is the ability to plunder those 'others' around you. If this were not so no 'blacks' would not associate with the Democratic party ever considering its track record in how the party has consistently taken advantage of them and still does.
Philosophy for most has been reduced to what appears to be a question but is really a two part attack on liberty. "You want healthcare to be available to people don't you?" Which for the socialist means individuals don't have the right to choose because that would mean the poor would be left out unless violence can be used to plunder the people and determine for them if they will receive it.
I like your last paragraph, government and education has made an intellectual tar pit in the arena of ideas and philosophy, all who enter are mired and extinguished, quickly if they struggle or slowly if they wait.

Ambition, distraction, uglification and derision, said the Mock Turtle. Definitely distraction. Definitely.

The anti-Trump stuff is now desperation. Wasn't there someone who said, "If that [euphemizing] bastard wins we'll all hang from nooses."

What he says, out side of his rallies, is meant to enrage the left in distraction while his team compiles evidence against them...

We will soon see the 27 8x10 glossy pictures, with a paragraph on the backs of each one to be used as evidence against them...Arlo Guthrie.

The American image, worldwide, has most often been a result of our more disruptive Presidents. Jefferson bucked what was expected when he refused to pay protection fees to the Barbary pirates, and established that America would not be the victim of extortion, like the Europeans. Theodore Roosevelt made a point of not negotiating with terrorist acts, and showing that America was in fact rapidly becoming a world power. There are more examples, but Trump actually fits the American image far better than Obama, who so badly wanted us to be seen as just another member of the global community.

There is a history of the world's perception of the United States as a unique institution, made up of troublemakers and risk takers. We are seen as well intended, lacking in sophistication, preferring the risks of individual freedom over the security of collectivism. Obama tried to change that image, and the rest of the world community wasn't receptive. Despite all of the media handwringing and public agonizing by some political figures, it seems that Trump has revived the American "cowboy" image that international figures so love and despise.

"Question With Boldness...the very existence of God", as Jefferson would say.

We welcome Trumpets Statements and Questions, in the short term, it's been working out but be forewarned, the progressive snake has been cornered.

Now that I think of it, I don't recall Trump ever mentioning anything directly from the Constitution.

Trump is something of an enigma. I hope it's intentional to distract the media from the actions needed to return America to strict constitutionally limited small government. At this point, I don't see evidence of addiction or mental illness; he looks a lot more sane to me than the majority of politicians leading con-gress in both parties.

The key to Trump is to watch what he does, not what he says. He says he's never taken drugs or alcohol, and as far as know nobody has alleged otherwise. As far as what he says goes, I don't think saying he has the audacity to raise serious issues is cherry picking. He has in fact raised serious issues.

President Trump is a rorschach blot. You see someone with the temerity to question long-standing bi-partisan doctrines. If I look at the blot the right way, I can see the one about immigration. Our unofficial policy all my life has been that we think some immigration is a good policy, and it's easier to look the other way than to have a debate and make that case. On other issues I can sort of see it since, as you note, he frequently contradicts himself on important issues.

I suspect President Trump has some degree of a problem with drugs, alcohol, or mental illness that causes him to ramble contradictory random thoughts. Anyone who wants to can cherry pick from the rambling and show he has the audacity to raise serious issues.

I really hope I'm wrong about this. I hope it's an act, poor public presentation, unfavorable portrayal by journalists, or some combination of those.
