Mother and four children among seven dead in worst shooting in Australia for 20 years

Wow, a nation where you can't have guns, and THIS HAPPENS? Wait a minute, taking all the guns away stops this! Rogue gun elements? Proof of the whole flawed theory....

The incident is the worst mass shooting in Australia since a lone gunman killed 35 in Tasmania in 1996.

The massacre prompted the nation to introduce tough gun controls, whose supporters include former US president Barack Obama.

Since then the only ‘mass shooting’ – four deaths excluding the shooter in a single event – in Australia was in 2014 when a farmer shot his wife and three children before killing himself.

Farmers are allowed to own guns under Australian law because they have a legitimate need to use them to kill feral pests and predators or sick or injured livestock.

Automatic and semi-automatic rifles and shotguns are banned from public ownership.

Samantha Lee, chair of the Gun Control Australia lobby group, said rural areas were over-represented in Australian gun deaths, including suicides.

She said: “Regional and rural areas are particularly vulnerable to these sorts of tragedies, because of the combination of isolation, sometimes mental or financial hardship and easy access to firearms.

I was in Australia during that Tasmanian shooting. The people were outraged and they had the killer in convicted in weeks. That led to the gun restrictions. Yet before that incident, guns were not an issue - little crime existed. And little more existed between that incident and the eventual restrictions. And lo and behold, we see these killings despite the restrictions. What's the real problem?

In the seventh grade we had a class that was discussing the future. A question was asked what will be the biggest challenge in the future? I said mental illness. I didn't know too much back then,
But with a trillion dollars spent on big pharma
The problem is only getting worse. Have some
Ritalin or Adderal start them young. Create cognative dissonance in school by ignoring reality.
Brain wash the sheeple , ignore responsibility.
Destroy face to face social interaction. Text and bully those who don't follow the crowd.
Mom and Dad ignore your death do us part vow.
Give your kids that warm feeling of abandonment.
Bring outsiders into the family like a revolving door.

This anti-gun twit either is ignorant or a liar.

It's big cities that have the largest percentage of "these sorts of tragedies"...probably due to the crowded conditions. Rural areas are better off, because the people that live there understand what life is really about.

If she was even marginally correct in her assumptions...wouldn't the major cities be building walls or checking IDs to ensure we rural's don't try to come in and take over???

I see Obama is meddling as always.

There are un-dead politicians we will never be able to get rid of. H Clinton is the other one.

While I am not yet a believer, I would love to see Qanon's predictions of long jail time for 2 former Dem presidents and one DEM almost president.
Solitary confinement today until one flips on the other two. Then solitary confinement for life ;^)
America does not negotiate with terrorists.

LOL! Read what exceller wrote here yesterday. Reading it again today "un-dead politicians" kick-started my imagination, and me dino just imagined The Evil Hag as a "walker" on The Walking Dead TV series.
One bite and you're infected with Progressive Demonology.
Wonder if cackling could be screenplay written in an ominous survival of the un-dead fittest adaptation.
Me dino has seen all The Evil Dead flicks. In a The Army Of Darkness remake, The Evil Hag could be that possessed old woman who, at the end of the movie, says "I'll eat your soul!"
