SHERIFFS CALL FOR CONGRESSIONAL ACTION ON IMMIGRATION

Sheriffs from around the country sent a letter to all Members of Congress outlining the need for congressional action on securing America’s border. The letter, signed by over 310 sheriffs representing 40 states. was spearheaded by Sheriff Thomas Hodgson from Bristol County, Massachusetts.

“We’re calling on Congress to take action now, on the security issues at the border and against sanctuary policies in our states, cities and towns. These sanctuary policies directly undermine and limit cooperation and collaboration between local, state and federal law enforcement, making it harder for America’s sheriffs to protect our citizens and legal residents,” said Sheriff Hodgson.

Very much of the border is private land. The issue is the govt. does what it does best, over think, over regulate and over reach. The land requirements for a wall would include roads, buildings, water , etc. to satisfy the myriad of agencies that stick their nose - and our money, into a fairly simple need, making it out of reach and out of the question for the property owner that would have to give up the land. I worked a ranch in W. Texas that was 52 sections of land, it ended at the border and was accessible only by horse - or chopper, when the sensors lit up 10 miles away, the BP had to load horses, call us to come 8 miles to the road and open 3 gates, they then drive to the main compound, unloaded the critters and ride South - not a very effective system. The ranch had two outlying buildings for our use, we found that a couple rounds placed over the heads of anyone sighted on the property tended to cause the routes to change, the same actions on the border would slow the crossings to a trickle, but progressive/ communist entrenched leadership would sue the property owners out of existence - never mind that the problem was solved, which is the LAST thing the prog/commies want. In the 80`s, in just that County, BP caught 100 wets a month, they estimated they caught 1 in 10. My guess is those numbers have risen exponentially. Congress is the last group that has any chance of solving the problem.

I agree with the call for congressional action, but the "securing the border" is political. The borders have been getting more secure, resulting in fewer illegal crossings, for decades, and I am confident the gov't will continue that trend. It's a problem already being addressed. The problem is looking the other way. I don't understand "sanctuary cities", but it sounds like codifying looking the other way. I think it's bad on so many levels:
    1. Creates an underclass. Who wants that besides those exploiting them?
    2. Erodes respect for the law. Imagine being someone going through the process legally.
    3. Makes it harder to accept refugees/immigrants because we're absorbing immigrants who came without permission.

I agree with their call for congressional action. It's not on the border, though. They're doing a decent job on that already. We need to stop looking the other way.

"The borders have been getting more secure, resulting in fewer illegal crossings"
Please provide details from an unbiased source?
They get here crossing the border, and it is illegals, millions of illegals, that are the issue.
If you are talking about companies giving jobs to illegals being apart of the problem, I agree.

        illegal crossings up 200%
This is in response to Obama's catch and release policy. That has been just another attack on the prosperity of the citizens who elected that POS . Think supply demand. The legacy of his treasonous selling out of America will have an asterisk on illegal MS 13 asassin's. Used by his operatives. http://www.newsweek.com/trump-declare...

Illegal border crossing is up over the last year, within the Trump administration. But whether or not it statistically decreases it is supposed to be zero. One does not stop catching and prosecuting criminals because the trend is down.

No they should not , but the globalists prefer to ignore the intent of a border . The border wall that would reduce the illegal activity at the border will be built inspite of democrats efforts to deny the will of the people.

Borders are the first place to stop looking the other way, however. You have to turn off the spigot before you can start mopping up the water. Until the wall is built and we can control the tide of illegal immigration, no other actions will have any lasting effect.

I thought they've been building walls for decades and it's working. It makes sense to keep doing it. I thought now more people cross legally and overstay than sneak in.

If we somehow find a solution to having 15 million people here illegally, either by arresting all of them or giving them a permit to be here, there needs to be some way to keep this situation from happening again.

"I thought they've been building walls for decades and it's working."

According to this article, less than 20% of the US-Mexico border has an effective wall: (https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/...) If they've been building it for decades, it's been at a snail's pace. I believe that there have been various times where money has been allocated towards the building of a wall but no actual construction has taken place.

"I thought now more people cross legally and overstay than sneak in."

          Neither is acceptable.

I agree, but again, you have to stop the problem from continuing before you can clean up the mess. You have to plug the hole in the bottom of the boat before bailing the water out becomes effective.

Yes. I head they only built it at places that get a lot of illegal crossings. The illegal crossing decrease, but some of them just move to segments of the border with no wall.
